VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION AWARD
PURPOSE:
To establish an honour role comprised of Volunteers and Coaches, for their
outstanding contributions to the Manitoba Blind Sports Association (herein referred
to as the MBSA).
SUPERVISION AND CONTROL:
The supervision and control of the Volunteer Appreciation Award shall be under the
guidance of the MBSA Executive and administered by a committee herein referred
to as the “Volunteer Appreciation Committee”.
THE VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION COMMITTEE:
The committee, chaired by the MBSA Vice President, shall consist of three (3)
members chosen from the MBSA Executive. These members are selected each
year at the first Executive meeting following the Annual General Meetings.
MANDATE OF THE VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION COMMITTEE:
To accept nominations by February 1st of each year, study the nominations based
on the established criteria, and submit the accepted nominations to the MBSA
Executive for approval.
FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS:
The MBSA will be responsible for the purchase of the Volunteer Appreciation
Awards (up to a maximum of three (3) awards per year). Awards shall include an
individual award for each recipient as well as an annual plaque to be kept at the
MBSA office.
PROTOCOL:
The Volunteer Appreciation Awards ceremony will be held prior to the start of the
Annual General Meeting. Organization of this event is the responsibility of the
MBSA Executive Director using the guidelines established in the Volunteer
Appreciation Award criteria.
Invitations for this event are to be sent to the following V.I.P.’s –MBSA Executive
members, Provincial and/or Municipal Government representatives and any special
guests the committee wish to include.
The event protocol will be developed by the MBSA Executive and reviewed with the
evenings’ Master of Ceremonies as chosen by the Committee Chair to ensure that
proper protocol is followed.
It is also recommended that food and drink should be available during the evening
event.
NOMINATIONS:
Nominations can be submitted by any MBSA member, volunteer or contributor and
shall be accepted for the following categories: Volunteer and Coach. All
nominations must be submitted to the MBSA Executive Director for approval by the
MBSA Executive.
All nominations must be submitted in writing on the MBSA Nomination Form and
may be accompanied by supporting documents, which may include newspaper
clippings, photos et cetera.
NOTE: If the nominator is a member of the Volunteer Appreciation Committee,
he/she shall be in a conflict of interest and must refrain from voting.
ELIGIBILITY:
VOLUNTEER:
To be eligible for nomination, a Volunteer must:

Have served in any capacity as a member in good standing for a period of
at least five (5) years (not necessarily consecutive) as a volunteer in one
or more sports; OR
Have served at the Provincial level in an Executive capacity and/or
Executive appointed active committee level for a minimum of five (5)
years; OR
Have displayed a high level of respect for the MBSA and its programs and
policies and having been involved in development and implementation of
programs for MBSA Members; OR
Have provided a significant amount of volunteer hours fundraising on
behalf of the MBSA.
COACH:
To be eligible for nomination, a Coach must:

Have represented the MBSA with distinction in practice or competition and
who by example, has brought great credit to their sport. The nominee
must be highly respected in the sport Community; OR
Have coached a minimum of five (5) years in one or more sports.
