and responsible way but also to evaluate possible risks and to exclude dangers for our environment and our

Nanotechnology is about particles with a size of few nanometers. One nanometer (nm) is one billionth, or
10-9 of a meter. Nano particles and nano-structures are composed of only a few atoms or molecules and
show physical and chemical properties which clearly differ
from our known surface qualities. Examples can be found in
the areas such as electronic engineering, medicine,
cosmetics or surface-technology. Here we find application
systems which give completely new properties to surfaces
of plastic films. That way surfaces including
nanotechnology, depending on the product, are extremely
stain-resistant, scratchproof, self-cleaning and antibacterial
Light-scattering or even able to clean our air from nitrogen
oxide and organic fine dust.
PHOTOCATALYSIS
The peculiar Primary Element included into Masterbatch
KATALITE® is a semiconductor. Light generates electronhole pairs on its surface if the energy of the photons is
bigger than the band gap Eg (inner photoelectric effect).
In the primary Element the electrons or holes can diffuse
to the surface and generate radicals. That leads to
decomposition of organic substances. Especially the holes
have a high oxidative effect. Out of water OH-radicals are
formed and organic substances are decomposed by
them. In many cases CO2 and H2O are end products for a great benefits for an increasing plants grow and
crops because it helps a lot the Photosynthetic Activity of the plants . The crystalline structure of the
Primary Element of KATALITE® is the most efficient form of photo catalysis has a band gap Eg 3.2 eV. This
energy has a light-wavelength of ca. 390nm, so in this unchanged form of Primary Element KATALITE® only
ultraviolet light is effective. Nowadays the band gap of Primary Element can be reduced by doping of its
particles, so a bigger area of the light spectrum is usable.
HIDROPHILY
The word “hydrophilic” has Greek origins and means "water love". A water drop spreads flat on a
hydrophilic surface, whereas water drops roll off a hydrophobic surface. A surface is called super-
hydrophilic if a water drop dissolves on the surface. A hydrophilic
surface enhances the self-cleaning when it is moistened by rain. Photo
catalytic KATALITE®
Primary Element coating becomes superhydrophilic if irradiated by light. Such a surface has decisive
advantages: The Master batch KATALITE® in the film acts by its
hydrophilic property like a detergent outside the film and as an
effective life standing anti-dripping effect inside the film. Each rain and
condense sliding washes the dirt and drops off the surface. The surface
obtains a self-cleaning effect. Water spreads as a thin film on the surface. The view and light transmission
through the film are better than through a standard film. The thin film of water on the surface supports the
evaporation if it is hot. This enhances the cooling of the Greenhouse, saves energy and protects the
environment and crops.
KATALITE® PROTECT
A Primary Element is used in KATALITE® Master Batch and is photo catalytically active. It forms oxygen
radicals on its surface, if it is irradiated by light. The activated oxygen decomposes molecules and organic
dirt particles that contact the surface. The decomposed substances can be washed off easily by water. For
activating this effect normal daylight is entirely sufficient. With modern KATALITE® products even artificial
light inside the Greenhouses is possible to activate the process of photo catalysis.
A significant influence on the photo catalytic efficiency of the application of KATALITE® has the particle size
of the used Primary Element. The smaller the active particles the bigger is their surface in relation to their
weight. That increases the speed of reaction, so products with very small particle sizes own a much better
reactivity. Surfaces coated with photo catalytic Primary Element are self-cleaning, anti-microbial and even
able to clean our air.

AIR PURIFICATION
KATALITE® Master Batch degrades toxic nitrogen oxide to nontoxic nitrate that will be washed away by the
water condense. That is no problem for our environment, because the formed substances are calcium
sulphate, calcium nitrate and calcium carbonate, that is nothing else than plaster, lime and agricultural
lime. The active principle is photo catalysis. In connection with light a surface passing through a film with
KATALITE® produces oxygen radicals and hydroxyl radicals. Those react with all organic substances and
harmful gases and decompose them effectively. This effect remains active one surface-life as the photo
catalysis does not use up.
DISINFECTION
Bacteria and viruses are dangerous. Inside the Greenhouses the fight against them is essential. A Film
including KATALITE® Master Batch kills bacteria and viruses reliably.

KATALITE®
KATALITE® into a plastic film induce the photo-catalytic reaction (chemical reaction that mimics
the photosynthesis of plants which can absorb and transform pollutants into harmless elements)
of solar radiation including UVa rays that passes through the layer of film coverage which is
excited thereby increasing photosynthesis activity of cultivated plants and their synthetic
reactions, while maintaining or increasing in parallel with the characteristics of greenhouse effect
of the films and creating conditions to super-hydrophilic surfaces of the film itself, triggering the
process useful to the Natural Anti-Dripping and self-cleaning, maintaining a perfect light
transmittance the film at the same time and, with the production of CO2 and water, creating a
further increase in passive photosynthesis and, with the destruction of bacterial and viral cultures
