The two horses cannot be shown in the same lot number. For example, one horse can be entered in Cloverleaf Barrels and Western Pleasure, while the other can be entered in the Plug Race and Reining. In order to have an accurate count of horses for the 2012 Head of the Lakes Fair, the Douglas County 4-H Horse Association is requiring every member that plans to attend the fair, submit this form by June 1, 2012, to commit the number of horses they plan on showing. If requests to bring two horses are greater than the amount of stalls available, a lottery drawing will be held at the June DC4HHA meeting. Members who requested bringing two horses will have their name entered in the drawing. Names will then be drawn and listed in their pulled order. After the number of available open stalls is determined, starting at the top of the list, youths will be issued the extra stalls until they are filled. Members requesting the second horse stall will then be notified. All members still must register in all the lot numbers (classes) desired for their one or two horses for the Head of the Lakes Fair Horse Show, by the date fair registrations are due for 4-H members (this date is to be announced). The 2012 fair dates are August 14-17. As a reminder, only members in grade six and above, who have met the qualifications are allowed to show two horses. It is also important for parents and youth to understand that the 4-H youth will be totally responsible for the care of their horses and stalls, just as in the past, so please make sure that if you request to bring two horses, the youth is willing and able to do the work. The requirements for qualifying are attending two Douglas County 4-H Horse Association meetings, attending an educational event, helping at one Douglas County 4-H Horse Association fundraiser, and participating in one barn cleaning day at the fairgrounds. Youth must be in 3rd grades 3-13. All horse project members are encouraged to attend Douglas County 4-H Horse Association meetings. The meeting schedule for the rest of the year is March 23, May 21, June 25, and July 11. Meetings are held at the Youth Building at the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds starting at 6:00 pm. Other premium book changes made this year include the addition of lot numbers (classes). A list of pleasure classes during the Head of the Lakes Horse show is as follows: Showmanship, English Equitation, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunter Hack, Dressage Test Intro, Stock Seat Equitation, Western Pleasure, Reining and Trail. Gymkhana classes include Pole Bending, Cloverleaf Barrels, Pennant University of Wisconsin, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Wisconsin Counties cooperating.
