Course Description:
This is a beginning group fitness class set to music that will focus on cardiovascular activities
such as bench aerobics, cardio-kickboxing, circuit training, and other drills. Class activities
include warm-up, cardio, strength/tone, flexibility, and cool down. Other fitness activities may
be included and modifications for all fitness levels will be provided. Pre and post testing of
individual fitness levels will be measured to determine outcomes. Proper exercise attire is
required.

 Weight and/or Resistance Training

 Fitness Trail Activities
 Selected sport activities
 Yoga, Pilates, and other fitness forms
Prerequisites:
To be successful in this course, student attendance and participation is a must. Students will
need athletic shoes and comfortable clothing for a full range of movement.
Required Textbook and Supplies:
There is no required textbook for this course.
Course Goal:
To help students learn what the components of physical fitness are, how they affect their wellbeing, and how to safely improve/maintain them.
Course Objective:
By the end of this course students will be able to participate in a variety of exercise activities
and make appropriate safety modifications for themselves.

Students will measure their resting heart rates and perform a
three-minute step test and/or a timed one-mile walk/jog test at the
beginning and at the end of the semester.

Students will improve and/or maintain muscle/joint strength,
endurance, agility, flexibility, and body composition.
Students will participate in a pre- and post- semester evaluation

Students will improve understanding and knowledge of healthy
body composition, image, genetic structure (types), and posture.

on various related topics.
Policies and Procedures:
1. Attendance is required to be successful in this class. School activities and doctors’ notes
are the only acceptable reason for an excused absence. Should some unforeseen
emergency occur (i.e. death in the family) it is the responsibility of the student to contact
the instructor ASAP to discuss options.
2. You must be present during roll, in order to be counted in attendance. Do NOT ask the
instructor to mark you present after roll-call. Being late is an absence. If you leave early,
it will also be counted as an absence.
3. Notify the instructor if you are auditing the class.
4. Complete and turn in the health history form first week of class. If anything on the
health history changes during the course of the semester, i.e.... pregnancy, medications,
injuries etc., please notify the instructor immediately.
5. It is your responsibility, as a student, to withdraw from the course by Friday of the twelfth
week of class if you choose to discontinue attending class. Students who fail to
withdraw from the course will receive a course grade of Failure "F."
6. Come to class prepared for a workout, dressed down with athletic shoes and
comfortable clothes.
7. Two (2) make-up classes are allowed by attending another exercise class (that you’re
not enrolled in) or by writing a fitness related paper on the subject of the missed class.
Grading
A: Participate completely in class and miss a maximum of 3 classes.
B: Participate completely in class and miss a maximum of 5 classes.
C: Participate completely in class and miss a maximum of 7 classes.
D: Participate completely in class and miss a maximum of 9 classes.
F: Missing 10 or more classes.
Missing or incomplete assignments will count as one additional absence per occurrence.
Course Evaluation Statement:
Students are strongly encouraged to complete evaluations at the end of the course. Evaluations are very important
to assist the teaching staff to continually improve the course.
Evaluations are available online at
http://evaluation.csi.edu. Evaluations open up two weeks prior to the end of the course. The last day to complete an
evaluation is the last day of the course. During the time the evaluations are open, students can complete the course
evaluations at their convenience from any computer with Internet access, including in the open lab in the Library and
in the SUB. When students log in they should see the evaluations for the courses in which they are enrolled.
Evaluations are anonymous. Filling out the evaluation should only take a few minutes. Your honest feedback is
greatly appreciated!
