Subspecialty interests can be accommodated, including general non-vascular interventional work. There are a number of multidisciplinary team meetings during the week and allowance to attend those meetings relevant to an individual’s practice is made in job plans. The post will be split between St Johns (2 days) and the Western General Hospital (3 days) but time may be allocated to other departments in Lothian, depending on the outcomes from a review of Radiology Services. Significant developments are also taking place throughout the imaging service across Lothian and all consultants will be expected to be flexible with their working patterns. The new consultant will participate in teaching of undergraduates and specialist registrars, management tasks and audit. Consultant job plans are reviewed annually by the Clinical Director or Deputy and adjusted subject to the needs of the Department and the individual by mutual agreement. These are all areas where NHS Lothian has a strong commitment and we recognise the contribution that consultants are both willing and eager to make. The precise allocation of SPA time and associated objectives will be agreed with the successful applicant. On Call: On call covers both WGH and StJH and is currently 1:15, Level 1, 3% availability supplement. A parallel interventional rota runs currently 1 in 7. Currently some consultants take 0.5 DCC in their job plan, others time off in lieu, as appropriate. However, with the installation of PACS across Lothian, on call arrangements across the city are being reviewed. Study Leave: 30 days study leave over 3 years is granted, or pro rata for those working less than full time. Funds are available to cover this. 9. Research and Development The Directorate is keen to develop strong links with various university departments as well as academic links with other NHS groups.
