Rankin’s new alloys include Complex Integrated Microstructure - 7 (CIM-7), a nano-crystalline structure that resists virtually any abrasive materials and is specially designed to be used on tool joints, and NON-MAG 1™, a metal cored sub arc wire containing Nickel, Chrome, Manganese, and Silicon that’s micro structure is fully austenitic and non-magnetic and is designed to band non-magnetic down hole tools and equipment. Completing the new M&R package is RanCUT™, an arc cut wire designed to remove hardfacing deposits without air assist. “We have been working closely with our customers in the petrochemical industry to find opportunities to improve performance of their down hole equipment and to make maintenance operations faster while achieving better banding performance and efficient weld removal,” said Rick Ferry, Rankin Industries CEO. CIM-7™ is part of the newest metallurgical frontier and possesses high hardness in the first layer. Rankin CIM-7 as deposited Rockwell C hardness for single layer band is 60 to 62. Oil drilling applications include hardfacing drilling tools, tool joints, and drill collars. Other industries will benefit where applications require low surface friction coupled with high hardness. Applications for Rankin’s NON-MAG 1™ include down hole survey equipment that is nonmagnetic such as drill collars, and directional drill heads where they house sensitive electronic equipment to find locations or mapping. RanCUT™ arc cut wire was developed for operators to remove old hardfacing deposits from circumferential shaped parts including drill pipe tool joints to prepare for new welds, without the use of compressed air. RanCUT works best on round parts in the three o’clock or nine o’clock arc position where gravity pulls the molten puddle material off the part. RanCUT offers very high metal removal rates and is an excellent choice for drilling tools, tool joints, and drill collars. The company also reintroduced Rantube ™, a premium large diameter tubular hardfacing electrode that combats wear caused by severe abrasion, erosion, impact, and heat. Hardfacing with high-deposition Rantube electrodes extends part service life and can be applied to cast iron, manganese steel, and mild steel without preheat although high carbon and alloy steels may require preheat. Rantube deposition rates are up to 6.5 pounds per hour for the 7/16" (11mm) electrode size. The 1/4" (6mm) electrode is designed for all position welding and can be used at low amperage to hardface thin edges on tillage tools and similar parts. Rankin Industries™ is a specialty formulator and manufacturer of high-quality hardfacing products and metal alloys for specialized maintenance, OEM, repair industries, and commercial and industrial applications. The company also offers expert custom alloys capabilities. The Protective Metal Alloys™ division of Rankin Industries™ produces a range of specialty alloy and wear-resistant products including hardfacing alloys, and a selection of specialty brazing preforms, and build-up and overlay products. The division serves a wide range of industries, from petrochemical and power generation to tool and die, rubber, mining and others. Rankin® is led by a team of industry experts who share a commitment to superior quality, service, and cost-effective welding solutions. The company is based in San Diego, California and serves customers worldwide. ### Photography Available Product Specifications Below PRODUCT SPECIFICS About NON-MAG 1™ Welding Parameters Diameter Amperage Voltage Sub-Arc Wire Extension Torch Angle Travel Speed 1/16” 275 – 300 (WFS-290-300-ipm) 30 – 31 DCRP (Electrode Positive) Use Lincoln 880 or 801 flux 1.0” – 1.250” x 1” wide osc beads 20 degrees x 7/8” (BTDC) lead distance 13-15 ipm Deposit Characteristics Hardness (two layers) HRC 18 – 22 Rc Abrasion Resistance Excellent Impact Resistance Very High Coefficient of friction Low Machinability 60-65 SFM Thickness 1-2 layers OK (multiple layers with proper procedures) Deposit appearance No cracking/very ductile/Non-Magnetic About Rankin CIM-7 ™ Welding Parameters Diameter Current Amperage Voltage Shielding Gas Wire Extension 1/16” DCRP 275-300 28-30 ArO2 or 75/25 ½” – 1 ¼” Deposit Characteristics Hardness (single layer) Abrasion Resistance Impact Strength Retains properties to: Mach inability Deposit Cross Check Thickness HRC 60-62 Outstanding Moderate 800F Grinding Only no (smooth precision welding) 1 – 2 layers no cracking (multiple layers with proper procedures About RanCUT™: Welding Parameters Diameter Current Amperage Voltage Wire Extension Oscillate or Groove 1/16” DCRP 275-500 35-40 1-1/2” to 2” Cut Characteristics Single groove Wide Oscillated Carbon Steel Hardfacing Deposits Arc voltage and amperage control, Groove width-travel speed control depth Wide flat cut ¾ to 1” inch, 50 cpm Very clean – light brushing Light soft scale- remove with very light brushing About RanTube™: Large diameter electrodes are available in three diameters inlcuding 1/4" (6mm), 5/16" (8mm), 7/16" (11mm) Special tubular design features include: graphite end seal for quick arc start protective flux coating high density alloy powder fill steel case seals tubular section containing alloys to prevent contamination, moisture pickup, and alloy loss if the electrode is dropped 1/4" (6mm) fits all electrode holders color coding for alloy identification
