NEW ARCHBISHOP Over the summer a new Archbishop for Glasgow has been appointed; Philip Tartaglia, presently bishop of Paisley, will be installed in his new job on Saturday 8th September in St Andrew’s Cathedral. Note that there’s a lot of coverage of him and his early family days in this month’s Flourish. ASSUMPTION On Wednesday we celebrate the solemnity of Mary’s Assumption into Heaven, Body and Soul. It’s a day of Obligation, so Masses are offered at 10am and 6.30pm. COLUMBAN SISTERS Sr Maureen, who appealed to us last week on behalf of her congregation, has written to thank you for the £610 you gave. “Thank all the parishioners for the cheque and very generous response to the appeal. It was brought back to us by a parishioner on holiday in Mexico and she thought we’d like it. A cross is a cross, and a crucifix has the figure of the Lord on it. So each should have a number we know. But we don’t! At least, not since the new books of envelopes from April. If you are paying tax then it’s a way of lawfully regaining that tax for the church or charity you choose. Ask about it; it’s only a signature really.
