Mission

Statement

We, the people of

St. Mary

Parish because of our baptismal promises and compelled by our

Catholic identity, seek to be an example of God’s presence by worship, education, and service to our neighbors with sensitivity to those most in need of God’s love.

From the Pastor’s Desk! November 24, 2013

Congratulations to Michelle Brown for receiving “The Bronze Pelican Award”. This

is a diocesan recognition given to adults who have made a significant and outstanding

contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in the Boy Scouts of

America. Recipients of the award must be an exemplary adult and member in good

standing in their respective position in Scouting and in their faith community, and

have the approval of their pastor and the Archdiocese Catholic Committee on

Scouting before the Award is given.

The Pelican has been used since the earliest days of the Church as a symbol of Christ’s selfsacrificial giving of himself to his people. With this award it is a symbol of adult leaders who give of themselves to nurture youth. Michelle has most certainly exemplified that!

Michelle has been a Scout Leader since 2006 and in her second year as Scoutmaster. She promotes

Catholic Scouting and faith development of our youth and the adults.

She models behavior that reflects the Gospel values and the values of the Boy Scouts of America.

A few of her achievements….

♦ Scout Sundays with Troop at Holy Name Cathedral and St. Mary

♦ Helping the Troop earn the Pope Paul VI Award

♦ Earned “Duty to God” Patch at Philmont and Sea Base

♦ Active in the Parish, Pastoral Council, Deanery Rep., Minister of

Communion, CCW, previously an Adoration Sub and Liturgy

Committee member

♦ Plans for Troop to meet Sunday Mass obligations while on campouts

♦ Offers opportunities for Scouts and Leaders to learn the Rosary and about the Saints

♦ Initiated the “1 Million Hail Mary Challenge” to pray for Cardinal George and Religious Freedom

across the globe

♦ Is a trained Scoutmaster and received Training Award 11/11

♦ Wood Badge bead recipient on 8/12

♦ Trained Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII counselor and facilitator

♦ Member of the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Committee on Scouting

♦ Serves on Religious Emblems board of review

As you can see Michelle is most involved in Scouting and in the life of St. Mary Parish truly giving of herself. Congratulations Michelle on receiving this Award!

This Thursday we celebrate Thanksgiving Day…my favorite holiday!!! I hope that you have

the opportunity to give thanks for all the Blessings in your life. I invite you to start your

celebrations with Mass at 9:00AM. Please join your parish family and Fr. Kris and I in giving

thanks to God for all the blessings bestowed upon us. We truly have been richly blessed!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Session 9

(Read Revelation , Chapter 19-20)

“The Marriage Supper and the Great Judgment”

The letters of warning have been delivered to the seven churches. The judgments to come have been revealed through the seven seals, trumpets, and bowls. The “cosmic cast” of players in the heavenly battle has been introduced and their ultimate fate presented. But how will this all play out? And what is the fate of the people who remain through these times?

In Revelation 19, the people of God are rejoicing because God is acting with his righteous justice, permanently ending human rebellion, exercising his sovereignty, and acting in communion with his faithful people. This prompts the cry of the saints, the twenty-four elders, and the four living creatures: “Hallelujah!”

Before a new heaven and earth can be ushered in, the ancient, corrupt, supernatural and natural powers must be destroyed. As King of kings and Lord of lords, Christ will do this. He will destroy all the earthly powers, from mighty man to lowest slave, who will not bend the knee to his kingship. He will destroy forever all creatures that have oppressed his people and will wipe all signs of their power and presence from our world.

You are welcome to come to any class that interests you. Join fellow parishioners as we learn more about the Bible. Contact Deacon Bob Boharic, 447-2838 for more information.

“Make a Change”

Please join St. Mary Girl

Scouts in supporting the

St. Vincent De Paul collection on Thanksgiving. This past Friday 100 Scouts participated in a service project to benefit

Sr. Margaret and the St. Vincent De Paul fund.

Each girl collected change and we enjoyed fun games with the coins. Then the change was presented to Sr. Margaret. She explained that many people knock on the door at the Rectory, asking for immediate short-term help, and these donations can be used to provide them with their next meal or a warm place to sleep for one night.

On Thanksgiving day, the Parish is conducting a collection for

St. Vincent De Paul.

Please consider a donation!

Envelopes can also be dropped off at the Rectory.

Queen of Peace High School

Honor Roll - 1st Quarter

We’re excited to tell you about a very special program at our school in conjunction with Crayola.

It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing new program devised to turn used markers into energy!

All around St. Mary, students, teachers and parishioners will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!

Please help support our efforts by sending any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located around the school and in the foyer area of the Oak Room.

Thank you in advance for participating! With your help, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.

Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—

ColorCycle it!

LEAVE A LEGACY

We are grateful for the generous support that you give to

St. Mary through your weekly contributions. Have you considered providing for the continuation of that support by including the parish in your Will?

Bequests given to the parish through Wills are for the sole use of St. Mary Parish. To include the parish in your Will, the correct language is:

“I give (a percentage or amount) to the Catholic Bishop of Chicago - A Corporation Sole, for the sole benefit of

St. Mary Parish, Riverside.”

Thanks for giving consideration to leaving a legacy!
