MARITIME AND CONTINENTAL CLIMATES
MARITIME:
 More than 1000 mm of precipitation per year
 Temperature range is less than 25 C degrees difference in
temperature (highest temperature – lowest temperature)
 Most of the precipitation falls in the winter months
(October, November, December, January, February, March)
 Maritime climates in Canada are near a very large body of
water such as the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Continental Climate
CONTINENTAL:
 Less than 1000 mm precipitation per year
 Temperature range greater than 25 C. degrees
 Most of the precipitation falls in the summer months (April,
May, June, July, Aug, September)
 Continental are most often in the interior of Canada, far
from an ocean.
GROWING SEASON:
1. Put a green line straight across from temperature 5.6 degrees
Celsius
2. Fill in with green between the green line and the red temperature
line
3. Determine the months of the year where the green line and the
red lines meet and that is the growing season.
4. Growing season in the climate graph below is from May through
October.
