2. OBSERVED LESSONS: (2@195 points each). Students enrolled in SPED

663 will be required to be observed teaching a reading lesson and a math lesson.

The reading lesson must include teaching vocabulary and reading comprehension (GC:6, S1) . The lesson plan form found under Forms and Rubrics on Blackboard will need to be used for all lessons. For each taught lesson, the following will need to be provided: a.

Write a lesson plan using the components provided for the course (see lesson plan form found on Blackboard in the Forms and Rubrics section) (CC:7, S10. S11,

S12) (GC:3, S1) (GC:4, S4, S5, S6, S7, S10, S11, S12, S13, S14) (GC:7, S2, S3)

Each lesson plan must include a metacognitive strategy (examples:

KWL, mnemonic, self-questioning, self-monitoring, etc.). This strategy must be one that will allow the student to be successful in numerous settings. (CC:4, S1,

S2).

One of your two lesson plans must include instructional strategies included in the textbook for individuals with disabilities (this must be specifically designated on the lesson plan). (CC:4, S3) (GC:4, S3) (GC:4, S2) (CC:10, S8) b.

The lesson is to be at least 30 minutes in length.

All components of effective instruction should be evident in the observed lesson. (CC:7, S5, S6, S8)

The Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching will be used to evaluate the observed lesson and lesson plan (Unit Lesson Plan Rubric). (CC:5, S7)

Upon completion of the observed lesson, a self-critique must be completed and handed in the next class period using the form provided (see selfevaluation form found on Blackboard in the Forms and Rubrics section). (CC:9, S9,

**ADDITIONALLY, ALL STUDENTS MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE

PEER EVALUATION ACTIVITY THAT IS A PART OF THE LESSONS

BEING TAUGHT (50 PTS.).**

**One of the observed lessons must be taught in your peer’s classroom. This is required by NCATE in order to make sure you are able to address the needs of students with disabilities in a variety of settings since we certify you as a special education teacher, 1 st – 12 th grades. More information will be given in class about this requirement.**

**ALL STUDENTS IN SPED 663 MUST MAKE AT LEAST 80% (OF THE

TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE) ON BOTH OF THE OBSERVED LESSONS

TO PASS THIS COURSE. INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT MAKE AT

LEAST 80% OF THE TOTAL POSSIBLE POINTS ON EACH OF THE

OBSERVED LESSONS WILL NOT PASS THIS COURSE**

**AFTER THE STUDENT HAS BEEN OBSERVED TEACHING A MATH

AND READING LESSON, HE/SHE MUST POST THE LESSON PLAN

USED FOR THE OBSERVATION ON PASS-PORT. THE COURSE

INSTRUCTOR WILL THEN SUBMIT A FACULTY-TO-CANDIDATE

EVALUATION OF THE OBSERVED LESSON**
