ROLE PROFILE Title: Head of Corporate Communications Directorate: Communications Level: 5 ROLE PURPOSE: A senior adviser promoting the strategic objectives of the Commission (EHRC) through the use publications, digital, events and internal communication channels Leading, managing and developing employees within the Corporate Communications team, enabling the successful delivery of the Commission’s strategic objectives. ROLE CONTEXT AND SCOPE: Reporting to the Director of Communications and leading the team that produces information and promotional publications for the organisation (in print and online forms), the post-holder will be accountable for ensuring the quality and professionalism of their team’s service delivery and will direct and deploy resource, as appropriate, to deliver business requirements. They will take accountability for the delivery of the website, Intranet, events programme and all internal communication channels. A key member of the Communications Management Team they will support the Director of Communications in leading the communication function for EHRC. This role plays a vital part in managing the external reputation of the Commission and the internal reputation of the Communications team. They will contribute to longer-term planning processes for their area of responsibility and the wider Communications Directorate and will use judgement to make decisions where solutions are not obvious. TYPICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Successfully develop a digital, publications and internal communications strategy and function to support EHRC’s strategic objectives [35%] Effectively lead the work of the Corporate Communications team, managing all aspects of their performance and development, setting service goals, delivering high quality outputs within agreed timescales and managing the deployment of wider resources [20%] Develop the corporate brand and promote its use throughout EHRC [10%] Support the Communications strategy through appropriate channels e.g. published materials, web-based media, events, internal communications, ensuring that the Directorate is able to meet its goals and objectives [10%] Effective and efficient management of publishing and digital budgets, including delegated budgets ensuring “best value” from spending and that financial procedures are observed [10%] Ensuring that the targeting, impact and effectiveness of publications, digital and internal 1 Created: Feb 2014 communications activity is systematically evaluated and underpinned by research ensuring that the Commission is able to make best use of its communication channels [5%] Influencing the external reputation of the Commission by mapping external events and advising the Director of Communications on the effective use of Commissioners and senior staff in external communications [5%] Adopting/promoting a flexible approach to work undertaking other areas of responsibility, as required; ensuring the overall business priorities of the Communications Directorate and the wider Commission are delivered. TYPICAL PERFORMANCE MEASURES: Web usage data show improvements in numbers of visitors and visits to the website Quality of publications is seen to improve; measured via feedback received as appropriate Positive feedback from colleagues within EHRC and external stakeholders about the clarity and quality of information we provide EHRC staff surveys showing improvement in staff feeling informed Effective management and motivation of resources to ensure effective performance and deliver objectives, including completing the mid year and annual appraisal processes and procedures to a high standard; INDICATIVE DIMENSIONS: Currently leads and manages a team of 4/5, with other indirect reports.
