Dear Parents/Guardians,

The staff of the Cathedral Community is committed to support you in the awesome responsibility of nurturing the faith of your children.

In order to carry out this responsibility, we offer a weekly Religious Education program to all children who attend public schools. This program runs from September through May.

(see the calendar on the opposite side of this brochure) We invite children who are 4 years of age through Jr. High to participate.

Our Religious Education program is held each Sunday morning following the 9:15

Mass. This gives the families an opportunity to participate in weekly Mass together.

During Mass the children have an opportunity to participate in The Children’s

Liturgy of the Word, which “breaks open”

God’s Word, at a child’s level; while parents participate in the Liturgy of the Word at

Mass.

Religious Education classes begin at approximately 10:30a.m. across the street in the Religious Education Wing of the old

Sacred Heart School. We ask that parents bring their children to their respective classrooms. Children are dismissed promptly at 12 noon, and we ask that parents are at the school to pick up their children. For safety reasons, we do not dismiss children without a parent or guardian.

During classes parents are welcome to remain in the meeting room to visit and have coffee. We welcome parental support as teachers, aides and/or substitutes. If you are interested; please contact Marianne

Himmelsbach at the number on the front of this brochure.

In order for a child to participate in our

Sacramental Preparation Program, a child must have had

at least

one year of Religious

Education prior to beginning Sacramental

Preparation. This will assure a child’s basic understanding of the faith prior to being immersed in our sacramental traditions.

If you would like to volunteer to help in our

Religious Education program, or to enroll your child in the program, or for more information; contact Marianne Himmelsbach.

If your child will be enrolling for the first time and was not baptized at one of the Cathedral

Community Churches, a copy of his/her baptismal record must be provided.

Materials fees are as follows:

 $35.00 – 1 child in program

 $45.00 – 2 children in program

 $55.00 – 3 or more children

Do not let the fees stop you from registering your child in our program. There is a need based scholarship available.

Religious Education is but one program which we offer to children and their families.

We also provide Family Faith Formation

Sundays, for children and families to work together on fun projects to reinforce

Christian values. During the summer we also offer a 2 week Vacation Bible School for children from 5 to 10 years of age.

Our Youth Group is open to youth from middle school through high school.

It is our intention to offer quality programs with foundational Christian values for children and families within our community as well as within our neighborhood.
