About the National Trust
Our purpose is to look after special places, forever, for everyone. Growing the
nation’s love of special places is how we do that, putting the relationship between
people and places at the heart of what we do.
We look after historic houses, gardens, mills, coastline, forests, farmland, moorland,
islands, castles, nature reserves, villages, pubs and even a goldmine. But we do so
much more too. We run a vast retail chain and a 151-strong outlet catering business.
And because most of the work we do is affected by wider global issues, our interests
extend far beyond just bricks, mortar and land in our care. We speak up on big
issues affecting the coast, countryside and heritage. And all the while we’re
welcoming around 19 million visitors a year. It’s a quite a task.
About Tyntesfield
Tyntesfield is a fine Victorian country house created by one of England’s richest
commoners, William Gibbs, who built his fortune on fertiliser.
Spiralling turrets and pinnacles adorn the roof, ornate stone carvings and church-like
windows complete the Gothic look, giving the feel of a mysterious, fairytale mansion.
Terraced lawns give way to spacious parkland scattered with hundreds of trees
collected by the family, and a glorious walled kitchen garden beyond.
The Tyntesfield estate was saved for the nation by the National Trust in 2002 and is
open everyday except 25th December. For house opening times please see our
website. Entry to the House is by timed ticket only. Numbers are limited so arrive
early to avoid disappointment. Normal admission charge applies.
Our Home Farm Visitor Centre includes a shop, Cow Barn Kitchen, second hand
bookshop and interactive wildlife hub. All are open from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
What is a National Trust Internship?
This is an opportunity for people looking to gain work experience across different
areas of work within the Trust. The internship will be attached to a particular project
or area of work, and will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and
experience in this area. The Trust has a commitment to support the personal
development of individuals who volunteer with us through the internship programme,
recognising the importance of work experience to future career development.
