Microprocessors used mainly in PC’s are now to be found in a wide variety to devices such as DVD players, MP3 players, mobile phones, games consoles…Computer Engineers will also be found programming and testing these devices. Some of the biggest names in computing have a presence in Ireland including Intel, IBM and Xilinx. Over the past years Intel has employed some students for Summer work. The implementation of ideas through new products, systems and services is the essence of engineering as a socially responsible profession. The rapid changes in electrical, electronics and computer technology and the diversity of applications require a broad educational background and a lifelong commitment to learning new and specialized information.
