ACK supports amateur and professional artists by organizing exhibits and concerts, staging theater events, and offering classes, intensives, workshops and Summer Camps for adults, teens and children. HISTORY Founded in 2003, the key to growth for the Arts Center has been its program development – from one small, free Origami Workshop to the current, always expanding variety of visual programs and performing events. Visual Arts ACK offers both Weekday and Weekend art programs including Workshops, Intensives and Classes. Local teaching artists contribute their knowledge and passion in a warm, creative, intimate environment. New programs for all ages are added seasonally! View our program Calendar here The largest visual arts event of the year is the annual Madison Green Arts Festival and Open Art Studio Trail. The first, held over a beautiful October 2005 weekend, showcased 17 artists and crafters with open studios, demonstrations, and exhibitions at both the ACK and at a month-long exhibition. Over the years it has grown to include over 100 fine artists and artisans, drawing attendees throughout New England and the tri-state area. Performing Arts The Arts Center continues to present a variety of high profile musicians to the Shoreline for its annual Jazz NightOut concert series. TESTIMONIALS Classes and Workshops Thanks for coordinating wonderful classes! - Kaoru Tamura, class participant I really enjoyed the Beginning Drawing Class with Ed. He is enthusiastic and thoughtful. He gave us tools/ways to practice drawing so that we would improve and taught us how to see an object and make it three dimensional. I do hope that there will be a follow up! - Susan Wyne, class participant I had so much fun during the wet felting workshop. I had never done this before and was floored that Robin had brought so many wonderful colors of Marino wool to choose from. Even though the writeup said I would complete an entire project during the time allotted, I thought I would never be able to do so, but I did! I now have a gorgeous pocketbook! Robin McCahill is a terrific teacher, somehow managing to assist everyone, as she demonstrated exactly how to lay out the wool, roll, knead and rub. She made sure all of us had something wonderful to take home. I would definitely take this workshop again. Now that I know how, I have other things I would like to create. Kudos to the Arts Center Killingworth. - Rhoda Pierce, workshop participant I really enjoyed Hayne's workshop. He is such a generous and knowledgeable teacher that I think everyone had a great learning experience. The timing was just right and I look forward to hearing about another hands-on workshop. Thanks to the Arts Center Killingworth for planning it. - Ann-Marie Szerejko, workshop participant Summer Fashion Weeks My eleven year old daughter was in her glory the whole week! As a parent I was thoroughly impressed with Fashion Week. Nothing else like it around this area. - Liz Connelly (daughter Emily) Sarah has learned so much during Fashion week I. She had no experience with sketching prior to this class and was pleased to see her progress in this aspect of fashion design. She gained confidence in her sewing ability and came away with a sense of accomplishment. - Laurie Webb (daughter Sarah) Autumn Art Trail and Outdoor Arts Festival Fabulous outdoor craft and art show. The variety and quality of artists' work is outstanding and it is good to see artists from out of my area. - Anonymous Resident from Milford The Arts Center’s commitment to Autumn Art Trail means even when things are really rough in our economy, people still get a chance to see and be around art in ways that are really important. Several of my visitors were people who had done the art trail before, but I had a lot of first-timers too. I had visitors come from Pennsylvania and New Yorik as well as Connecticut. I very much enjoyed participating and I hope to so again next year. - Paula Billups, Open Studio Artist in Ivoryton Had a wonderful time at the Autumn Art Trail Outdoor Festival! Thank you to Barbara and all the volunteers for all all of their hard work! - Mary Vetel, Jewelery Designer at Madison Festival Jazz NightOut I just want to thank you again for last night. I had a wonderful time and I really appreciate you having us. I thought the whole evening went fantastically, from beginning to end. Thanks again! - Alma Macbride, performing artist at Jazz NightOut 2012 I just wanted to congratulate you on a fantastic Jazz NightOut. My wife and I were there and I brought our neighbors out too. We all loved it. That was very NYC quality music right here in Connecticut! Thanks for getting such great talent together and thank you for being such a vibrant supporter of the arts!! Bill & Margaret Mather, audience members I hear Jazz Night Out was a big success! I just wanted to thank you so much for being so nice. With all that you had going on, you were somehow able to get my parents great seats and you were so thoughtful to announce my Dad's birthday. Thanks for planning such a great event - my parents said it was packed and enjoyed every minute of it - and apparently there were quite a few minutes! I do hope that I can participate in an upcoming event. My daughter is just about two, so before I know it, she'll be able to check out the center as well. - Audrey Brainerd Creative Arts Birthday Parties I recently had my 11th Birthday party at the Arts Center Killingworth. All of my friends and I all had a blast. I just loved the fact that when you walked in, there were a bunch of neat and pretty things on the table. I liked the fact that you told us about the different things we could embellish, and then we all got to do our own thing. When I think about it, I guess that my favorite part was making the earrings because I got my ears pierced recently and I didn’t have a lot of earrings. Now I have a whole bunch and the best part about them is that I made them myself! The fact that everyone there was welcoming and cheerful was fantastic! I love how they decorated the place with my favorite color blue! The decorations that were upstairs where we ate were great. It felt so homey! It was really fun when we dressed up in our embellished clothing and the other articles of clothing you had, and then went outside and took funny pictures! Overall, I had a wonderful time there and all of my friends did too. Thank you so much for offering these great parties for kids like me. I had a blast! - Olivia Chasse, Age 11 My daughter's birthday theme was Halloween. We arrived to a spooky cavelike lair of black, orange and urple decorations complete with spiderwebs and candles. The girls wasted no time making their crafts and jewelry. They were so engaged and excited that we had to make them stop to eat! I'm glad to have met you as well and look forward to many more workshops sponsored by the center. I think you've got something really special there with a lot of potential for this area. - Thelma Halloran, Mother IN THE PRESS Madison Green Outdoor Arts Festival and Open Art Studio Trail 2012 Shore Publishing Article 2011 Shore Publishing Feature Article 2011 New Haven Register Feature Article 2010 Shore Publishing Feature Article 2009 Shore Publishing Feature Article 2008 Connecticut Home and Garden Magazine Feature Article 2007 Valley Courier Feature Article 2006 The Source Feature Article 2006 Shoreline Harvester Feature Article 2005 Main Street News Article Classical and Jazz NightOut Concerts 2013 Shore Publishing: Eric Alexander Quartet 2012 The Source Article: Eddie Allen and Alma Macbride 2012 West Hartford News: Alma and Jimmy Macbride 2012 Shore Publishing Article: Haven String Quartet 2011 New Haven Register Article: Kevin Hayes and Bob Dorough 2011 Shore Publishing Article: Geller Anderson Duo 2010 NME Video: Eli Degibri Quartet 2010 NME Video: Tom Briggs and CT4 2010 Shore Publishing Article: Mary Kathleen Ernst 2009 Hartford Courant Article: Aaron Goldberg and Jimmy Macbride 2009 Shore Publishing Article: Elektra Ensemble 2008 Killingworthtoday.com Article: Phil Bowler Quintet and Carl Allen and New Spirit 2007 Shoreline Times Top 5 Arts & Events: Ben Wolfe 2006 Killingworthtoday.com Feature Article Arts Programming 2013 Shore Publishing Feature Article: Fashion II and Art of Mother Nature Camps Still Open 2013 Middletown Press Article: July Summer Camps 2013 Shore Publishing Feature Article: Adult Art Programs 2012 Shore Publishing Feature Article: Sunday Afternoon Workshops 2011 Shore Publishing Feature Article and Video: Fashion Weeks for Teens 2011 Middletown Press Feature Article: PuppetSpeak 2010 Killingworth Krier Feature: Grassroots Arts Center Grows Up 2010 Shore Publishing Article and Video: Teens teaching Art 2010 Shore Publishing Feature Article: Photography 2006 Clinton Recorder Article 2006 Main Street News Feature Article:PuppetSpeak 2004 The Source Feature Article: Shadows from Around the World Arts Center Killingworth 276 North Parker Hill Rd, Killingworth CT 06419 (860)663-5593 artscenterkillingworth@gmail.com www.artscenterkillingworth.org www.facebook.com/artscenterkillingworth www.twitter.com/arts_center_ct http://pinterest.com/artscenterct/ http://www.youtube.com/user/artskillingworth
