● Break down of funding for Mills College’s operating budget- School endowment (13%)
Student fees (55% of operating budget), Private support:gifts from alumni, parents,
family, friends, corporations (32%)
● Last year 91% of students received some form of scholarship
● Alumni participation (24%) helps the school’s rankings and the value of degree
● -More information can be found in The Annual Report (Latest edition comes out in late
October)
● The goal of OIA is to create a sense of philanthropy for current Mills College students so
that after graduation students understand the importance of maintaining a consistent
yearly support at any amount, which ideally could happen through a Student
Philanthropy Council-Student led organization that helps raise awareness about
philanthropy and supporting the school thrive.
-We currently do not have this type of organization or communal attitude at Mills
-Tuition is a lot of money, but does not cover all of the costs to maintain the school
-During the strike Mills set a goal to have over 50% alumni participation rates, which has not
been accomplished yet
-OIA is recruiting students to run the club

○ Expanding Parking-What are the current issues?
○
○
v.
■Issues in Ethel Moore, Mary Morse, etc (Limited amount of parking up hill)
■Commuter parking near the children’s school should include more parking for
residential students
■There should be more accommodating lighting in parking lots (Richard’s Lot)
■There is not enough parking on campus at certain times of the day to
accommodate everyone.
■There are several additional handicap parking spots on campus to comply
with ADA regulation
Should there be a difference between student/residential/commuter parking?
