American Society of Military Comptrollers Land of Lincoln Chapter Scott AFB, IL 2015 ASMC Scholarship Program Dear Guidance Counselor, Illinois Land of Lincoln (LOL) Chapter of American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) is pleased to offer graduating high school seniors an opportunity to compete for scholarship awards up to $3,000 depending on number of applicants received. Two (2) winners from LOL, who meet criteria set by ASMC National Headquarters, will also compete for one of eleven national scholarships described below. National Scholarships: One - $3,000 award in honor of James F. McCall for a senior who demonstrated exemplary leadership abilities, is pursuing a financial management-related discipline (accounting, economics, business administration, etc.) and achieves high academic success. This winner’s name will be engraved on a plaque at National Headquarters in Alexandria, VA Four - $2,000 awards Four - $1,000 awards The LOL ASMC Chapter is a non-profit educational and professional organization for persons, military and civilian, involved in military comptrollership. Military comptrollership includes all professions of financial management in Department of Defense and Coast Guard. ASMC was established as Society of Military Accountants and Statisticians in 1948 in San Antonio, TX, and was open only to active duty officers. Since then, ASMC has expanded to include all DOD and Coast Guard Financial Management personnel. In 1991, ASMC National Headquarters was opened in Alexandria, VA, and currently serves a growing professional society of 18,000 members. ASMC promotes education and training of its members, and supports development and advancement of professional military comptrollership. National also sponsors research, provides professional programs to keep members abreast of current issues and encourages exchange of techniques and approaches. Award Submission Requirements (Applicant): 1. Must be an outstanding graduating high school senior in final half of school year, or within six months of application deadline. 2. Must be entering a field of study directly related to financial/resource management in related disciplines outlined below: • Accounting and Finance • Administrative Support • Auditing • Budgeting • Comptrollership • Cost Analysis • Financial Management • Management Analysis • Program Analysis • Resource Management • Statistics • and many supporting activities... 3. Must have two letters of recommendation from: (1) high school principal, academic dean, or guidance counselor (2) high school teacher 4. Must include a copy of transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and college acceptance letter. Basis for Award: financial need scholastic achievements leadership ability career and academic goals extracurricular activities Criteria above must be documented in letters of recommendation and summarized on attached scholarship application form. LOL Scholarship committee will review and select award winners in March 2015. Winners will be recognized at a LOL business luncheon held in the spring of 2015. Deadlines: Completed applications are due before midnight Central Standard Time on 27 February 2015 Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. The due date cannot be extended as submissions are due to National by 31 March 2015.
