Dairy Breeds (7): Short numbers so difficult to gauge any change in the trade, but generally in line with recent weeks. R C Ponting & Son, top at £100 and £80 with £82 for Chilton Farming, £72 for E & V Kidner, Avg £61.43. Native Breeds (38): Nearly half the entry today! Hereford bulls toped at £225 for R J Prout, mediums £160 -£180, £120 and £130 for D J Hibbard & Sons. Angus bulls traded well to reach £180, £190, £200 and a top of £230 for E G Hedges & Son, Shepperdine, Thornbury with L Lewis also selling at £200. Best fresh sorts £180+ avg for 14 forward good at £177.43. Ken hedges also topping the heifers with a cracker at £150, another good shaped calf from E & V Kidner made £140. Avg £117.60. Weaned Angus heifers (9 months) made £270 and £240 from M/s A Goodman. Simmental (6): Short entry of good quality. Stroud Green Farm Ltd top with a bull at £332, mediums trading £240-£250. Heifers avg £208, topping at £228 for John Millard. Limousin (7): Bulls to £260 from M T & I Scott & Son, 3248 from R C Ponting. Avg £205. Heifers to £198 from MT 7 I Scott & So, £182 from Chilton Farming. British Blue (24): Another good entry with the best bulls selling very well all above £300. G M Lambert topped today with J W H Ball at £355, Messrs B Gough & Son close behind at £350, £332 L Lewis, 3322 Stroud Green & £320 for Mark Maslin, medium bulls traded at £260-£265, 3rd quality and small bulls 3168 - £185. 10 Blue heifers forward saw the best 4 at £225 and topping at 3260 for J W H Ball and £255 for D J & N J Wall, Elmstone Hardwicke, same price for Stroud Green Ltd. Very few strong older cattle on offer with 2 Hereford steers (29mnths) to £1110 (175p/kg) from Mrs A White, Minchinhampton. The stronger farming cattle saw Aberdeen Angus steers to £1030 (184p/kg) from M/s Bybrook Farm, Stanton St Quinton. Continental steers traded generally between £750 - £850 (165 – 185p/kg) topping at £865 (177p/kg) from M/s Breakspear & Son, Stanford Dingley. Friesian steers saw the stronger sorts over £600 topping at £705 (140p/kg) from the same home. The heifers also met a flying trade with Aberdeen Angus heifers to £935 (187p/kg) & £865 (177p/kg) from M/s S Poultney & Son, Frocester. Trade was better than many had expected with little export demand and low trades reported nationally. The best lambs traded between 185 – 195p/kg topping at 207/kg £85 for 41kg from Miss I Voyce. The general run of lambs traded between 168 – 180p/kg with only a few of the plainer or very loose coated lambs under these figures. The heavier lambs traded generally between £76 - £83 topping at £87 for 51kg from Mr E Wilcox.
