163 STORE CATTLE
11.30 am - Auctioneer: Jon Pullin
Averages: Steers £540, Heifers £454
Another reasonable entry sold to a similar trade with all cattle seeming
well sold with the reports of another drop in an already low beef trade
expected, also still very little grass about is not giving buyers to much
confidence.
The strong cattle (Over 24 months) saw very few on offer with Charolais
steers to £860 (126p/kg) from Mrs H Whitcombe, Minety & Hereford
steers to £800 (122p/kg) from M/s J Willis & Son, Malmesbury. The
heifers saw Herefords to £680 (107p/kg) from the same home with
overage British Blue heifers to £635 (98p/kg) from Miss P Robinson,
Minsterworth.
The farming cattle (18 – 24mnths) were also short in number with only a
few stronger Continentals on offer topping at £685 (132p/kg) for a
Limousin from Mr C Hill, Newbury. The heifers (18 – 24mnths) saw very
little strength on offer with the few better sorts seeming well sold topping
at £695 (134p/kg) & £688 (135p/kg) for Limousin from Mr B Bennett,
Cromhall.
The younger cattle (15 – 18mnths) saw some good cattle on offer which
sold to a good trade with Limousin steers to £648 (150p/kg) again from Mr
B Bennett, Cromhall. The native breeds saw Aberdeen Angus steers to
£645 (152p/kg) from Mr C Hill, Newbury. The heifers sold the better
shaped stronger Continental heifers over £550 topping at £605 (126p/kg)
from Alderley Farms Ltd, Wotton under Edge.
A reasonable entry saw a similar trade to last week with the trade very
unstable this week with some centres reporting good trades & other lower
prices. The best handyweight lambs traded between 154 – 158p/kg topping
at 166p/kg £68 for 41kg from M/s J & G Hamilton. The medium quality
lambs traded generally between 148 – 153p/kg with the heavier lambs
trading between £68 - £74 topping at £81.50 for 65kg from M/s B & D
Gilder.
