Potential Trustees Sir Ken Knight Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser (CFRA) to HM Government The Office of the Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser was established in October 2007, following the appointment of the first Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser (CFRA), Sir Ken Knight. Sir Ken commenced his work with the fire service in Surrey in 1966 and has subsequently served in a number of other UK fire brigades. At a principal officer level he has served as Assistant Chief Officer in London, Deputy Chief Officer of Devon and the Chief Fire Officer of Dorset and West Midlands Fire Services before returning to London in 2003 as London's Fire Commissioner. Sir Ken was awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal in 1991, the CBE in 2001, the Order of St John in 2005 and was appointed one of Her Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of Greater London in May 2006. Sir Ken was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours the same year in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the fire and rescue service. Ken has been a stalwart supporter of BRE and LPCB over the years. Dr Liz Goodwin Chief Executive Officer, WRAP Liz Goodwin is a chemist by background and has a PhD in chemical physics. She held a number of technical and production related roles with ICI and Zeneca before moving into the environmental field within the chemical industry. Liz became CEO at WRAP (The Waste and Resources Action Programme, £80m t/o) in 2007 and has worked for the organisation since its early days, joining in 2001 as the first Director of Materials Programme. Since taking over as CEO, the profile of WRAP and the issues of waste and recycling have increased significantly through wide media coverage. In 2008 WRAP launched the Construction Commitments: Halving Waste to Landfill with support from both within the construction industry itself and across Government. Liz has been both a client and collaborator for BRE and is well disposed to us. John Carter COO Travis Perkins John Carter (aged 48) joined Sandell Perkins as a management trainee in 1978. He held a number of regional management positions, before being appointed Managing Director, Operations in 1996, and a director of Travis Perkins plc in July 2001. He became Chief Operating Officer in February 2005, and is a member of the Health and Safety Committee. Neil Quinn Chief Executive – Safety Sensors Division, HALMA plc Neil is Chief Executive of the Safety Sensors Division of HALMA. He was appointed to the Halma Executive Board in 1995 and to the Halma p.l.c.Board in 1998. He joined Halma as Sales Director of Apollo Fire Detectors in 1987, becoming Managing Director in 1992. Neil has a material sciences degree from Sheffield University Neil has been an important client and very supportive of BRE Global over the years. Cal Bailey Marketing & Sustainability Director, NG Bailey Cal Bailey has been marketing & sustainability director of NG Bailey since 2007. He is responsible for marketing, and the implementation of sustainable practices both for the organisation and for its clients. NG Bailey is one of the UK’s largest privately owned businesses with sales in the region of £600m, employing some 3,300 people. It offers a comprehensive range of services to the construction and property industries, including mechanical, electrical and ICT design, prefabrication, installation and commissioning – all with lifetime maintenance. Prior to his current role, Cal spent three years as the company’s business planning and development director. Before that, he was the prefabrication director responsible for creating the work at the company’s specialist prefabrication division. Prior to joining NG Bailey in 1994, Cal Bailey worked in positions across the manufacturing, construction, development and consultancy sectors, for companies including Arthur Andersen, Accenture, Zurich Group Plc, and his own business. He has an MA in Philosophy, Politics & Economics from the University of Oxford, is a qualified Chartered Accountant and National Engineering Scholar. Cal is affiliated with many industry bodies and is a founder member of Buildoffsite and the UK Green Building Council, as well as a member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Institute of Family Business and Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales. Cal is also a regular speaker at key construction and property conferences.
