LORD LIEUTENANT HELPS DISTRIBUTE DIAMOND JUBILEE BOOKS!
Children at two Winsford Primary School’s were yesterday (Wednesday 30 th
May) treated to a very special visitor. The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire David
Briggs MBE K.St.J – who is the Queen’s representative in Cheshire, joined
Town Mayor Councillor Steve Smith to help hand out copies of a booklet
called ‘Queen Elizabeth ll, Her Story’ to youngsters at Grange and Over Hall
Primary Schools. Also among the VIP visitors were Town Mayor’s Consort
Councillor Mark Baker, the book’s author John Malam and the publishing
Director Joyce Bentley. Winsford Town Council and the local Cheshire West
and Chester Councillors had decided to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
by presenting a copy of the booklet to all primary school children in the town.
The Lord Lieutenant enthralled the children at both schools with a short talk
about his role as the Queen’s representative, and was clearly impressed by
the childrens’ knowledge of the Royal family and why the Diamond Jubilee is
such a happy and historic occasion. The Grange youngsters sang a special
Jubilee song and pupils from Over Hall presented the Lord Lieutenant with a
special Diamond Jubilee gift to mark his visit.
Said the Town Mayor ‘We were honoured and delighted to welcome the Lord
Lieutenant to Winsford, especially at such a busy time for him with the Jubilee

celebrations about to start. It was a wonderful morning and one that I’m sure
the children will remember for many years to come’
