Ancient Greece Research Project
Greek Mythology
- Choose one of the Greek gods or goddesses.
- Research the different myths about this god, the characteristics, cities that worshipped
him/her, temples built, etc.
- Do we still see this god anywhere in our culture?
- Write an essay explaining your research. Minimum 1 page typed, 12 pt. font, double
spaced.
- Create a visual aid that explains something about the god or goddess you chose
(a comic strip of one of the myths, a model of one of the temples, a hand-drawn picture
of the god or goddess with details about his or her characteristics)
The Olympics: Then and Now
- Research the Olympics of ancient Greece AND the Olympics of today.
- Write and essay describing each of the Olympics, the history, the similarities, the
differences, the purpose, etc. Minimum 1 page typed, 12 pt. font, double spaced.
- Create a visual aid that displays something you learned about the Olympics.
The Real Story of the Peloponnesian War
- Research the different events of the Peloponnesian War.
- Write an essay that explains the events, the different leaders, the different strategies, the
mistakes, and the final outcome of the war. Minimum 1 page typed, 12 pt. font, double
spaced.
- Create a visual aid that displays one thing you learned about the Peloponnesian War. ( a
comic strip with events from the war, a detailed timeline with events from the war, a model
of Athens and its walls, etc.)
Greek Art and Architecture
- Research Greek Art and Architecture.
- Write an essay that includes information about what the style of art was like, the style of
architecture, what was important to the Greeks, different types of columns, important Greek
buildings and important pieces of art. Also include information about how Greek style of art
and architecture is still used today.
- Create a visual aid that displays Greek art, architecture, or both.
What about the Other City-States?
- Research one of the other Greek city-states. Examples include Corinth, Ephesus, Thebes,
Argos, and Delphi.
- Write an essay that explains the geography, history, customs, religious beliefs,
government, important buildings and daily life of the city-state. Minimum 1 page typed, 12
pt. font, double spaced.
- Draw a map of Greece and show where this city-state is located.
- Create a visual aid that displays something important about this city-state.
Math & Science in Greece
- Research the discoveries of Math and Science in ancient Greece.
- Write an essay that explains the history of these discoveries, who discovered them, and
why they were significant.
- Create a visual aid that explains one or more of the discoveries.
Every Project should include...
- A posterboard with the title of the project, fact sheet, and essay
- A visual aid, (if flat, the visual may also be attached to the posterboard)
Due: Friday, February 5
All projects will be displayed around the classroom and evaluated by peers for a Greek
festival.
