What to Expect in the 3rd Grade

Special Classes are Art, Music, Library and PE

Our study of history will include Ancient Greece and Rome

Our topics in Science will be: Introduction to Matter, Physical Changes and
Chemical Changes

In Literature the children will read: Caddie Woodlawn, D’Aulaires’ Book of
Greek Myths, Detectives in Togas, Number the Stars

In Bible we will study the Judges and Kings of Israel

We will memorize Psalm 139 and Isaiah 53

In Spelling we will apply Johnny Can Spell phonograms to new words

In Language Arts we will identify and classify nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs
and prepositional phrases in a sentence

In Writing the children will write: 2 point paragraphs, descriptive paragraphs, a
personal psalm to God

In Poetry we will write: couplets, cinquains, diamante

Field Trips will include: Studio S Pottery, Science Guy, The Parthenon in
Nashville

Special Events may include: Olympics, History Fair, Greek god Feast

Math Skills - Saxon Math 3, multiplication facts 1-10

Book Report Projects may include: File Folders, Sandwich Boards, Oral
Biography, Scrapbook

Latin is introduced in 3rd Grade 3x time a week

Music includes: Mozart, Recorder Olympics, god and goddess rap, rhythmic
psalms

Art includes: types of Greek columns, Studio S Greek Pottery demonstration

Service Projects may include: Good Shepherd Children’s Home, Divine Grace
Primary School in Uganda, Police Appreciation bags and letters, school clean-up
project
