SAINT AUGUSTINE OF ENGLAND CATHOLIC CHURCH 1 Herbert Road, Solihull, B91 3QE 0121 705 0228 www.staugustinesolihull.org.uk admin@staugustinesolihull.org.uk Registered charity No. 234216 Fr Dominic Kavanagh Fr Sean McTernan SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD 16th MAY 2010 Dear Parishioners, ‘Christ ascends to His Father! Christ’s ascension is our guarantee that one day we shall be with Him in heaven to praise the glory of God our Father. The Ascension is our hop of the great inheritance which awaits those of us who believe in the power of the risen Christ.’(Pope John Sunday Missal. Introduction to The Ascension). Today is also World Communications Day; a day when we pray for the work of communications professionals across the world. The Catholic Communications Network (CCN) provides support for the Church in promoting the Gospel in the media. The CNN depends on your generosity. There will be a second collection to support its work. This Sunday afternoon we are holding a Rosary Rally and hope that you will be able to come along to support it. The Rally begins with Holy Hour at 2pm. Mass at 3pm. followed by a May Procession. We would particularly welcome the children of the Parish, especially those making their First Holy Communion, to the May Procession. Please try to be present. We welcome in to the family of the Church those who are to be baptised this weekend-babies Henry John Holmes and Eoin Patrick O’Sullivan. We look forward to Father Sean’s Diamond Jubilee on Thursday 27th May. Bishop Philip will be the leading celebrant and will be joined by Father Sean’s Priest friends, family, former Parishioners and yourselves. The Dominion Car Park will be open. Would those of you who have kindly offered to help by providing refreshments please bring them to the Presbytery or Sacristy or Hall at your convenience. Your prayers are asked for Jason Wandless and Lidia Scannaliato who are to be married here at St Augustine’s on Friday 28th May at 1.15pm; also for Richard Cattell and Mary Donnelly who are to be married on 19th June. Next weekend we will be having a special collection to help cover the costs of the Pope’s visit to England. Please be as generous as possible. The target for the Birmingham Archdiocese to reach is £80,000 and the average amount raised in the Diocese for second collections is between £40,000-£50,000 . So if you give twice what you normally give to a second collection we should reach our target. Please see inside Newsletter for arrangement for the Pope’s visit. 15th May Saturday Fr Jonathan Veasey Acts 18: 23-28 John 16:23-28 9.00am Celebrant’s Intention Acts 1:1-11 Hebrews 9:24-28,10: 19-23 Luke 24: 46-53 12.30pm Catherine Reddy -RIP 6.00pm Special Intention (C) 16th May Acts 11:1-11 SOLEMNITY OF THE Hebrews 9:24-28,10:19-23 ASCENSION OF THE Luke 24:46-53 LORD 9.00am Sophie Kuchar- Get Well Fr Joseph Vu-Duc-Yen 11.00am Bridget McDonagh- RIP 2.00pm Rosary Rally 17th May Acts 19:1-8 John 16:29-33 Monday 9.35am The Rosary Of Easter 10.00am P.J.Kelly-Intention St Paschal Fr John Wairagu 18th May Acts 20:17-27 John 17:1-11 Tuesday 9.35am The Rosary St John 1 Pope 10.00am Patricia Tams- RIP Fr Richard Walker 12.30pm Julie Ann Curran-RIP Patricia McPhillips-RIP 19th May Acts 20:28-38 John 17:11-19 Wednesday 7.30am Celebrant’s Intention St Dunstan 9.35am The Rosary Fr Brian Wall 10.00am Des Cushenan- RIP 12.00 Noon Requiem Daniel Leech 4.00pm Solihull Hospital Confession/Exposition 11.0012.00 Noon Tea/Coffee available after 12.30pm Mass 20th May Thursday St Bernadine of Siena Fr John Walsh Acts 22:30,23:6-11 John 17:20-26 9.35am The Rosary 10.00am Frances Vaughan- RIP 12.30pm Thanksgiving-Angela & Mike Hylands Exposition 10.30am-12.25pm Pre-School 9am-1.15pm Confirmation Preparation 6pm Acts 25:13-21 John 21:15-19 9.35am The Rosary 10.00am Eveline O’Shea- RIP 6.30pm Anthony Hickey- RIP Exposition 10.30am- 12.30pm Acts 28: 16-20,30-31 John 21:20-25 9.00am Celebrant’s Intention Acts 2: 1-11 1 Corinthians 12:3-7,12-13 John 20:19-23 12.30pm Celia Sheridan- RIP 6pm All People of the Parish Acts 2: 1-11 1 Corinthians 12:3-7,12-13 John 20:19-23 9.00am Karleen Bowen & Rob SmithIntentions 11.00am Bernard Wasley- RIP Confession/Exposition 11.0012.00 Noon Tea/Coffee available after 12.30pm Mass 21st May Friday St Christopher of Magellanes P and Companions Fr Thomas Walton 22nd May Saturday St Rita of Cascia Fr James Ward 23rd May Pentecost Sunday Mgr Paul Watson Tea/Coffee available after 9am & 11am Masses Pre-School 9am-1.15pm CWL Meeting 7.30pm Pre-School 9am-1.15pm Legion of Mary 6.30pm Youth Club 7.00pm Parents & Toddlers Group 9amNoon Rainbows 4.30pm-5.50pm Brownies 5.45pm-7.30pm First Holy Communion Preparation 4.30-6pm Parish Hall Talks on the Faith 7.30pm 5.15pm-615pm.Holy Hour followed by Mass at 6.30pm Tea/Coffee available after both 9am/11am Masses Offertory Collection last week: £1,036:06( Gift Aid £274:70 Loose £761:36) Second Collection this week for: Catholic Communications. May we live life as an earthly reality and develop our human potential to the fullest. May we make use of the results of science to achieve a better life on this planet. But in our best moments, we know that there must be more than all of this, a supreme Reality. As Christians, we know that this Reality is Your loving Father who awaits us with You and the Holy Spirit. Where You have gone, we ultimately will come - if we are faithful. Communications Sunday Prayer O God, Whose word is truth and in whose light we see light, Guide those who tell the story Of our times through word and image. Make them seekers after truth In addition, advocates of human dignity. Grant discernment to all Who rely on their labours, And, as we confront the pain And promise of this world, Awaken in us a sense of wonder At your presence and of longing for your peace. Please pray for: Betty Hird who died recently; also Daniel Leech (Requiem Mass Wednesday 19 th May at 12.00 Noon. Reception into Church 4.30pm Tuesday) Also Maureen Walter, Eddie Kubic, Johanna O’Connell and Pauline Harris whose anniversaries are at this time.
