FOURTEENTH SUNDAY (YEAR A) 6th JULY 2008
Dear Parishioners,
The readings of Mass remind us ‘Christ’s’ yoke is sweet and his burden light. Christ,
even though He is Son of God, humbles himself and comes among us in human form.
He embraces our condition and knows at first hand our worries and anxieties. The
Holy Spirit makes Christ live in us so that we find rest for our souls.’
Father Dominic writes:
I feel overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity you have shown to me as I celebrate
my Silver Jubilee. My special day began with a beautiful Prayer Service at
St.Augustine’s School. Thank you to the children for singing and praying so well and
to the head teacher and teachers for their kindness. I am so grateful to you all for the
prayers, Masses, gifts and for being so supportive. My Silver Jubilee Mass was just
beautiful. Special thanks to all who worked so hard in preparing the Church and
beautifying it with flowers. Thank you to our Altar Servers especially. The reception at
St.Peter’s School was a lovely occasion also and my deep thanks to all who worked so
hard to make this possible.
We now look forward to Deacon Andrew’s Ordination on Sunday at 3.30pm. with
Archbishop Vincent. (Andrew will offer his First Mass at Holy Family Church,
Small Heath, on Monday 7th July at 10.30am.) Andrew will give his first Blessing after
each occasion.
We are very grateful for your generous support of the official Day of Exposition last
Tuesday. It was very well supported, and it was particularly pleasing to see the young
people present for the last 20 minutes.
The books ordered by the parents of the first Communion children and Confirmation
children are available in the sacristy for you to collect.
The next two baptismal preparation evenings are on: Thursday 24th July and
Thursday 31st July at 8pm in the Parish Hall.

The Hands of a Priest
We need them in life’s early morning,
We need them again at its close;
We feel their warm grasp of true friendship,
We seek them when tasting life’s woes.
When we come to this world we are sinful,
The greatest as well as the least:
And the hand that makes us as pure as the
angels,
Is the beautiful hand of priests.
At the altar each day we behold them,
And the hands of a king on his throne;
Are not equal to them in their greatness
Their dignity stands alone.
For there in the stillness of the morning,
Ere the sun has emerged from the East;
There God rests between the pure fingers,
Of the beautiful hands of a priest.
And when we are tempted and wander,
The pathway of shame and of sin;
‘Tis the hands of a priest will absolve us,
Not once, but again and again.
And when we are taking life’s partner,
Other hands may prepare us a feast;
But the hands that will bless and unite us,
Is the beautiful hands of a priest.
God bless them and keep them all holy,
For the Host which their fingers caress:
What can a poor sinner do better
Than to ask him who choose them to bless.
When death-dews on our eyelids are falling,
May courage and strength be increased;
By seeing raised o’er us in blessing;
The beautiful hands of a priest.
