TWENTY FOURTH SUNDAY (YEAR A) 14th SEPTEMBER 2008
Dear Parishioners,
This weekend we celebrate the Feast of ‘The Triumph of the Cross.’ The cross is the
sign of salvation because when Jesus was lifted up on the tree of the cross He drew
everyone to Himself. He humbled Himself even to the death of a criminal on a cross to
show His love for His Father and for each one of us. Now we acclaim Jesus as Lord to
the glory of the Father. (‘Pope John Sunday Missal’)
We look forward to welcoming our young people to the re-opening of our Youth Club
on Tuesday at 7pm.All young people between the ages of 10-14 are welcome.
Please note that for the next two Fridays the evening Mass will be at 7pm. This coming
Friday we welcome the parents of our new pupils at St.Augustines. The following
Friday we welcome members of the Catenian Association. The Dominion Car Park
will be open on both evenings.
Next weekend is Home Mission Sunday- a time for us to reflect on how we are sharing
our faith with our neighbour. There will be a retiring collection for the Catholic
Agency to Support Evangelisation (C.A.S.E.) Leaflets and Gift-Aid envelopes are
available. We can link Home Mission Sunday with the ‘Awareness Month’ for the
St.Vincent de Paul Society and with the recruiting drive, which will take place next
weekend for the Knights of St.Columba.
In two weeks time we will hold a retiring collection for Father Hudson’s Society.
Please remember to write to your M.P.s in respect of our deep concern that
amendments to the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill will allow further
liberalisation of the laws. There are postcards available in both porches to facilitate
this communication.
This Thursday evening we begin our series of talks on the Catholic faith. These talks
are particularly to help those who wish to update their knowledge of God’s revelations.
They are both for those who are Catholics and for those who are non-Catholics.
We welcome into the Family of God this weekend: Ellen Jane Egan,
Hannah Emily Kirkham, Amber Rose Carroll and George Holmes.

At The Foot of the Cross
Beyond all my unworthiness
You are the Worthy one;
Beyond all my sin
You are the Sinless one;
Beyond all my selfishness
You are the Caring one;
Beyond all my weakness
You are the Strong one;
Beyond all my limitations
You are the Infinite one.
Beyond all my lack of love
You are the Beloved one.
Beyond all my faults,
Beyond all my doubts,
Beyond all my failures
You are to be praised
and given glory, honour and blessing,
Because by your passion,
Death and resurrection
You redeem us into glory. Amen.
