3M Library Systems Introduces New RFID Detection System;
New RFID Tag for Disc Media
---Products debut at American Library Association Midwinter Meeting
ST. PAUL, Minn. – January 15, 2010 – 3M Library Systems will introduce several new products
at the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting including the 3M RFID Detection
System Model 9900 and the X Range Single Coil RFID Tag a product manufactured by FCI
Smartag offered by 3M to libraries. These products are the latest in 3M’s broad offerings of
RFID solutions, which help libraries more efficiently circulate and secure materials while
conveniently serving patrons.
The RFID Detection System Model 9900 is focused on providing libraries with both
elegant and neutral design, while still providing state-of-the-art performance and reliability.
Available in a one, two, three or four corridor system, the Model 9900 features adjustable audio
and visual alarms, as well as an integrated and directional patron counter. Flexible mounting
options allow libraries to use either a direct mount or a base plate according to their needs.
At a time when many people are turning to libraries for music, movies and games, the X
Range Single Coil RFID Tag from FCI Smartag gives libraries a single solution for both
productivity and disc security. Easily applied directly to an entire disc, the tag offers a costeffective security option and works well with 3M SelfCheck Systems, Staff Workstations and
RFID Detection Systems, allowing for efficient self-service.
“These introductions give libraries new, attractively-designed solutions that will allow
them to more efficiently manage circulation activities and their entire collections,” said Matt
Tempelis, 3M Library Systems Business Manager. “As the economy has helped many people
rediscover the usefulness of libraries, more and more libraries are adopting 3M RFID solutions
because of our years of proven performance. Our products provide the most benefits to patrons,
staff, circulation and operating expenditures, and will help libraries operate more efficiently
today and for many years to come.”
