3M Introduces Intelligent Return and Sorter System FX ---System expands capabilities of SL model, offers increased efficiency and flexibility CHICAGO, Ill. – July 9, 2009 – 3M Library Systems today introduced the 3M Intelligent Return and Sorter System FX, an affordable, efficient automated return and sorting system to automatically check in and separate library materials in up to 15 sort locations. This easy-to-use system includes RFID and/or barcode identification, RFID and/or electromagnetic (EM) security and up to 4 induction options, including indoor/outdoor and staff. With the 3M Intelligent Return and Sorter System, libraries can affordably install a fully automated system. An engineered modular system allows users to easily add modules as a library’s capacity needs change. “The FX model is fully customizable to meet the precise needs of libraries of virtually any circulation and collection size,” said Joan Detloff, market development manager, 3M Track and Trace Solutions. “With the help of 3M Library Systems project management staff, libraries can design a system to meet today’s needs, with the flexibility to expand with future growth.” This intuitive system can help libraries increase efficiencies during the check-in and sorting processes, as returned items are automatically checked in with RFID or barcode tags and sorted to the appropriate bin location. Materials can be accurately checked-in and quickly returned to the shelf, helping to maximize the use of staff resources and ensure precise records. The 3M Intelligent Return and Sorter System can also reactivate security strips, such as TattleTape Security Strips from 3M. The system also includes an optional printer for receipts and two choices for the user interface on the induction unit. The Intelligent Return and Sorter System was released during the 2009 American Library Association annual conference.
