Dear Parents, This year your child will have an opportunity to choose from a variety of books to read. They will not only have access to the school library but also to my classroom library. I have not had the opportunity to read all of the classroom library books. I am asking that you work with me as a team and help monitor and become involved in the books your child is reading. Please read over the classroom library rules with your child and sign below. Your child will not be allowed to check out classroom library books until this is signed and returned to Mrs. Malloy. Below are some helpful hints on encouraging your child to read. Set aside time every day for reading Let children choose their reading material Frequently visit a library or bookstore to provide a wide range of books and other reading materials, including magazines and comic books. Read out loud to your children. Show your children how much you enjoy reading for pleasure. Explore reading programs at libraries and bookstores. Check out or buy books on tape to listen to in the car. Encourage children to write their own stories. Consider renting a movie based on a book, or read the book together and then watch the movie. Take an interest in what your child is reading. Discuss it with your child.
