Dual Credit Policy MCC Department of Health and Physical Education Last Revision Date: 2/17/2011 A.) Course Information Sheets (Syllabus): The syllabus used for dual credit students shall be equivalent or more rigorous than the syllabus used in the same course taught at MCC. The faculty liaison will provide the dual credit instructor with a sample syllabus. The dual credit syllabus may contain content in addition to the MCC syllabus. A copy of the syllabus must be submitted to the faculty liaison for approval at least once per year. B.) Instructional Materials: The course textbook used for dual credit courses must be the same as the textbook used in the same course taught at MCC. Every dual credit student must be provided with a textbook and must not be required to share or rotate textbooks. If there are budgetary issues, the previous edition may be used with permission of the MCC Health and Physical Education Department. Leadership instructors may access text materials online and ensure that students have access to materials. Dual credit instructors will be provided with and utilize exam questions, options for assignments, and scoring rubrics that are used for the same course taught at MCC. Instructors can utilize additional materials as desired. If the dual credit section is mixed, with dual credit and non-dual credit students, the above information applies to the dual credit students only. Non-dual credit students are not required to have a text, or to complete MCC assignments or exams. (Dual credit students must be given coursework above and beyond the coursework given to the non-dual credit students. If desired, the high school faculty member may issue a separate dual credit grade and a high school grade for each dual credit student.) C.) Professional Development: The MCC faculty liaison shall ensure that professional development opportunities and meetings are communicated to dual credit instructors. Dual credit instructors are expected to attend scheduled course meetings that are in line with instructor schedules. The faculty liaison is responsible for forwarding any relevant updates to the dual credit instructor throughout the semester/year. The dual credit instructor must document professional development related to the course and submit documentation of professional development activities to the faculty liaison at least once per year. Professional development can include, but is not limited to, conferences, seminars, online continuing education, professional journals, and relevant meetings. D.) Monitoring: Dual credit courses are to be college level courses. The MCC faculty liaison shall be responsible for monitoring the delivery and quality of dual credit instruction. Such monitoring shall include, but is not limited to: observations, visits, telephone calls, emails, etc. The faculty liaison will provide the dual credit instructor with assignments, exams, and scoring rubrics to be used and will provide feedback and assistance related to these items. Dual credit instructors will provide the faculty liaison with copies of assignments and exams. The faculty liaison will provide updates and check-in with dual credit instructors on a regular basis. Recommended frequency of contact is no less than once per month. The MCC faculty liaison will administer and collect surveys from dual credit students as directed by the MCC Office of School to College Alliances. Results will be taken back to Institutional Research at MCC for tabulation, with results being forwarded to our national accrediting entity. E.) Visitations: Visitations are to occur one or more times per year. If the course will only be offered in the fall, the visit needs to occur in the fall. If the same teacher is teaching the same course in the subsequent semester, there is no need for another visit until the following year unless issues from the initial visit are in need of follow-up. If the course runs the full year, the visit can take place at any time during the year. Follow up visits will be made at the discretion of the MCC faculty liaison. The faculty liaison will make arrangements with the dual credit instructor to visit a class in which the instructor will be teaching, and not when an exam or other non-teaching activity is occurring. MCC faculty can provide brief presentations regarding the MCC Health Studies degree program, health careers, and/or college expectations. F.) Deadlines and Grading: The MCC faculty liaison is responsible for providing the dual credit instructor with withdrawal and grade submission deadlines. The high school teacher must submit grades prior to the deadline given by the faculty liaison in letter grade format. (Note: A+ is not recognized by the MCC system.) The MCC liaison is responsible for collecting these grades and submitting them into the BANNER system prior to the deadline.
