It was a question and answer time. Dual Language program has been in progress for 7 years Have 6 elementary schools Population 50/50 Enrollment in dual language program based on first come first serve Follow a 50/50 model by Gomez & Gomez Dual Language Training Institute Has 2 dual language classrooms – one taught entirely in English; the other entirely in Spanish K/1st stay in their native language classroom but learn English and Spanish Bilingual buddies start in 2nd grade Have Spanish Literacy daily Have language arts and math in 1 hour blocks Options to Consider for General Directions of Team Make WS ELL magnet for other schools. WS does not have enough ELL alone. MV stay as is Both schools stay as is MV to work towards 90/10 pilot literacy instruction WS to model 50/50 Native literacy as a district wide model Hiring priorities and/or training. Hire people who support DL instruction in general and those who are bilingual. Be strategic about inclusions between strands FLES at MS and PD; general education classes at MV and WS K, K-1, K-2 as a 5-10 year plan for MS and PD Complete buy in and training of principals/leadership The 1st Annual Oregon Alliance for Multilingual Multicultural Education Institute Conference in January was presented if there is an interest. Next meeting is January 5th 3:40-5:10 at the district office.
