Neighbourhood Watch update on incidents in December 2013
In December 2013, fifty two incidents were reported on Beat 3, of those nineteen
relate to crime. There were three domestic related assaults, one in North Waltham,
one in Oakley and one at Popham Service station on the A303. A further low level
non-domestic assault occurred which is to be resulted by way of Community
Resolution.
Six incidents of making off without payment for fuel occurred at the filling stations on
the A303 close to Popham which is on the edge of the beat boundary. A further
incident of theft of fuel from an HGV parked up overnight also occurred at the
location. Although the statistics for this area reflect on beat 3, there is no cause for
concern because there is no impact on the community as such due to the crime being
committed by persons travelling through the area via an arterial route.
Burglary non-dwelling
Overnight on December 27th offenders forced entry to a garden shed in Sunnymead,
Oakley and stole three pedal cycles from within. A ‘Ribble’ racing bike valued at
over £1000 was stolen, a ‘Giant Defy’ racing bike and a ‘Scott’ mountain bike. The
Giant Defy was located the following morning by a dog walker on a track that leads
from beside the railway bridge in Hill Road leading to St John’s Road, the finder
kindly recovered it to his home address for safe-keeping. The seat was missing from
the bicycle, nothing of forensic value was on the property which has been returned to
the owner. The Ribble is described as white framed with lime green taping on the
handlebars, it has green wheels which also have orange and black on them. The Scott
bicycle is a mountain bike with a black frame that has yellow lettering on it.
Harassment
A male from Basingstoke was arrested and interviewed regarding harassment over a
period of several months of an ex-partner living in Oakley. He fully admitted the
offence and was given a caution.
Anti-Social Behaviour
Four incidents of ASB took place in Oakley and one in Malshanger. They consist of
trespass, neighbour nuisance, vehicle nuisance and rowdy and inconsiderate
behaviour.
Speed Enforcement
Our Community Speed Watch volunteers are getting out regularly in the Oakley area
to get the message across that speeding in built up residential areas is not acceptable.
This is good work for the good of the community by residents committed to making a
difference – I thank you all.
