Describe and explain how a long profile changes downstream 6 marks
a long profile changes downstream due to erosion occurring this erosion causes the long profile to
change it changes by wideness, longness and width long profil changes especially towards the end of
the river becuse the water flows more here I think overall that river has lots of different features
such waterfalls and bends in the river this is becauses of the changes that that take place in the
upper part of the river. these changes occur because the river is alot faster at the start of the river.
Describe and explain how a long profile changes downstream 6 marks
The river changes as it moves down stream due to lateral erosion occurring at the start of the river
and vertical erosion occurring the mouth of the river. At the mouth of the river you would expect to
find landforms such as waterfalls and as you move towards the source you would find meanders and
flood plains. The rivers get wider at the mouth and the water would be a lot clearer at the start of
the river, which is also called the source.
Describe and explain how a long profile changes downstream 6 marks
A long profile of river changes as the river moves from source to mouth. The velocity of a river
increases downstream, this is because there is less friction towards the mouth of the river as bed
load is smaller so the water is able to flow easier. The River is also a lot wider near the mouth of the
river as lateral erosion takes place, not vertical erosion which is dominant in the upper part of the
river, due to the gradient of the river. Bed load and rock sizes are larger at the rivers source because
the velocity of the rivers flow is slower the force of the water is unable to break down the rocks into
smaller rocks.
