Perception, Action, and Cognition
National Science Foundation (NSF); Directorate for Social, Behavioral and
Economic Sciences (SBE); Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences
(BCS); This program supports research on perception, action and cognition.
Emphasis is on research strongly grounded in theory. Central research topics
for consideration by the Perception, Action, and Cognition panel include
vision, audition, haptics, attention, memory, reasoning, written and spoken
discourse, and motor control. The program encompasses a wide range of
theoretical perspectives, such as symbolic computation, connectionism,
ecological, nonlinear dynamics, and complex systems, and a variety of
methodologies including both experimental studies and modeling. The PAC
program is open to co-review of proposals submitted to other programs (e.g.,
Linguistics, Developmental and Learning Sciences, Cognitive Neuroscience,
etc). Proposals may involve clinical populations, animals, or computational
modeling only if the work has direct impact on basic issues of human
perception, action, or cognition. Proposals are due February 1, 2016. For more
information, visit NSF.gov
Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) - Applied Mathematics
United States Department of Energy (DOE); Office of Science (OS); The
mission of the Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) program is to
advance applied mathematics and computer science; deliver, in partnership
with disciplinary science, the most advanced computational scientific
applications; advance computing and networking capabilities; and develop, in
partnership with the research community, including U.S. industry, future
generations of computing hardware and tools for science. Proposals are due
April 1, 2016. For more information, visit science.energy.gov
Division of Environmental Biology (Core Programs) (DEB)
National Science Foundation (NSF); Directorate for Biological Sciences
(BIO); Division of Environmental Biology (DEB); The Division of
Environmental Biology (DEB) supports fundamental research on populations,
species, communities, and ecosystems. Scientific emphases range across many
evolutionary and ecological patterns and processes a tall spatial and temporal
scales. Areas of research include biodiversity, phylogenetic systematics,
molecular evolution, life history evolution, natural selection, ecology,
biogeography, ecosystem structure, function and services, conservation
biology, global change, and biogeochemical cycles. Research on organismal
origins, functions, relationships, interactions, and evolutionary history may
incorporate field, laboratory, or collection-based approaches; observational or

Exploiting Parallelism and Scalability
National Science Foundation (NSF); Division of Computing and
Communication Foundations; This notice is seeking proposals to support
groundbreaking research leading to a new era of parallel computing.
Achieving the needed breakthroughs will require a collaborative effort among
researchers representing all areas -- from services and applications down to the
micro-architecture -- and will be built on new concepts, theories, and
foundational principles. Proposals are due January 19, 2016. For more
information, visit Grants.gov
FY 2016 Study of the U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders
National Science Foundation (NSF); Department of State (DoS); Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs; This notice is seeking applications for the
design and implementation of eight “Study of the U.S. Institutes for Student
Leaders” programs through five different themes: Civic Engagement; Global
Environmental Issues; Religious Pluralism in the United States; Social
Entrepreneurship; and Women's Leadership. Proposals are due December 11,
2015. For more information, visit eca.state.gov and Grants.gov
National Digital Newspaper Program
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH); The NEH is soliciting
proposals from institutions to participate in the National Digital Newspaper
Program (NDNP). NDNP is creating a national digital resource of historically
significant newspapers published between 1836 and 1922, from all the states
and U.S. territories. This searchable database will be permanently maintained
at the Library of Congress (LC) and will be freely accessible via the Internet.
Proposals are due January 14, 2016. For more information, visit Grants.gov
Services Research for Autism Spectrum Disorder across the Lifespan II
(ServASD II): Pilot Research on Services for Transition-Age Youth (R34)
National Institutes of Health (NIH); The purpose of this Funding Opportunity
Announcement (FOA) is to support research to develop and pilot test
strategies to assist transition-age youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
and their families or caretakers in planning for and smoothly transitioning into
adult functioning and adult services. The ultimate goal is to develop models
for transition to adult supports and services that effectively prevent lapses in
services and supports; enhance functioning in community settings such as
educational, social, familial, and other settings; maintain or improve health,
safety, and quality of life; and reduce or maintain reductions in ASD-related
symptoms. Proposals are due February 3, 2016. For more information, visit

Services Research for Autism Spectrum Disorders across the Lifespan II
(ServASD II): Pilot Studies of Services Strategies for Adults with ASD (R34)
National Institute of Health (NIH); This Funding Opportunity Announcement
(FOA) will support pilot studies to develop and test service strategies that
optimize the independence and functioning of adults with autism spectrum
disorders (ASD).This FOA invites preliminary studies to develop adult ASD
service strategies that address enhancing social relationships, physical and
mental health, and independent functioning including community housing
and safety, alone or in combination. The ultimate goal of this activity is to
improve functional, behavioral, and health outcomes in adults with ASD. In
targeting adults, this FOA is focused on individuals who have completed
transition out of services delivered via the child and adolescent service system
and the primary education system. Proposals are due February 3, 2016. For
more information, visit Grants.gov
Impact of Aging on Currently Employed Animal Models of Disease and
Chronic Conditions: Demonstration Projects (UH2/UH3)
National Science Foundation (NSF); National Institute of Health (NIH); This
notice is seeking applications to test whether or not the ages of laboratory
animals is an important consideration in experimental outcomes in the study of
disease pathology, degenerative condition, response to therapy, intervention or
environmental exposure. The majority of studies of human conditions and
diseases in laboratory animals are done using young animals. Proposals are
due January 6, 2016. For more information, visit Grants.gov
Collaborative Aging (in Place) Research Using Technology (CART) (U2C)
National Institutes of Health (NIH); The purpose of this, Inter-Agency
Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to develop and validate the

technology to facilitate aging in place, with a special emphasis on people from
underrepresented groups. Proposals are due January 12, 2016. For more
information, visit Grants.gov
Chemical Theory, Models and Computational Methods
National Science Foundation (NSF); Division of Chemistry (DoC); The
Chemical Theory, Models and Computational Methods program supports the
discovery and development of theoretical and computational methods or
models to address a range of chemical challenges, with emphasis on emerging
areas of chemical research. Proposals that focus on established theoretical or
computational approaches should involve innovative additions or
modifications that substantially broaden their applicability. Proposals are due
September 30, 2016. For more information, visit NSF.gov
Documenting Endangered Languages
National Science Foundation (NSF); National Endowment for the
Humanities (NEH); This funding partnership between the National Science
Foundation (NSF) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
supports projects to develop and advance knowledge concerning endangered
human languages. Made urgent by the imminent death of roughly half of the
approximately 7000 currently used languages, this effort aims to exploit
advances in information technology to build computational infrastructure for
endangered language research. The program supports projects that contribute
to data management and archiving, and to the development of the next
generation of researchers. Funding can support fieldwork and other activities
relevant to the digital recording, documenting, and archiving of endangered
languages, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples, and
databases. Funding will be available in the form of one- to three-year senior
research grants as well as fellowships from six to twelve months and doctoral
dissertation research improvement grants for up to 24 months. Proposals are
due September 15, 2016. For more information, visit Grants.gov
