Autism Support Worker
The Post
The Autism Support Worker is responsible for the implementation of the care
plan to support individuals with autism. This may be within a residential, day
service or housing with support in a community based setting.
The Organisation
Scottish Autism seeks to promote and provide care, education, support and
opportunities for individuals with autism of all ages throughout Scotland.
The Services Division
The Service Division of Scottish Autism is responsible for all direct support
services provided by the organisation to adults and children with autism
throughout Scotland.
Accountable to:
Senior Autism Practitioner
Location:
Key Tasks:

To promote the physical, emotional, behavioural and cultural needs of
individuals with autism as identified in their care plans.

To assist in the provision of a caring, supportive and nurturing
environment, in which the individual with autism can feel safe, secure
and free from harm.

To support and enable the individual with autism to be as independent
in their community as possible.

To assist the Autism Practitioner in the implementation of the care plan.
General Responsibilities:

To provide the individual with autism with the appropriate levels of
practical and physical support.

To assist in providing a programme of leisure and social opportunities
for each individual with autism.

To ensure guidelines in the care plans are followed as appropriate to
the needs of the individual with autism.

To collaborate with the Autism Practitioner on the design of care plans
appropriate to the needs of individuals with autism.

To attend and participate when required at review meetings.
Specific Responsibilities

Care:

To assist in the assessment of individuals with autism to enable them
to develop talents and ensure needs or difficulties are identified to meet
their full potential.

To maintain regular and appropriate records and reports as directed,
eg incident reports.

To be fully involved in supporting the individual with autism to maintain
an environment which is as safe and hygienic as possible and
appropriate to their needs

To accompany and support the individual with autism as necessary in
accessing community opportunities and activities.

To provide guidance, support and structure to enable the individual
with autism to benefit from as wide a range of positive life experiences
as possible.

To apply appropriate agreed Physical Intervention as specified in care
plans, currently (CALM) technique/s, for the protection & safety of the
individual with autism, others & environment.

To support and enable the individual with autism to make use of
available services and information.

To support the individual with autism to access health services
appropriate to their needs as specified in their care plan.

Participate in all meetings as required and make a positive contribution
to them.

Ensure good working relationships with parents, family and other
professionals involved in the individual with autism’s care.

To promote team working and good working relationships with
colleagues.
Training and Development:

To commit to undertake training in autism.

To complete Physical Intervention Training currently (CALM)
Maintaining the theoretical & practical element on an ongoing basis via
Initial Training/Verification, Regular Practise & annual Re accreditation

To undertake all training relevant to the post.

To actively contribute to the supervision, appraisal and personal
development process.

To maintain Continuous Personal Development in line with the Scottish
Social Services Council registration requirements and internal CPD.
Finances and Resources:

To follow all rules, direction and guidelines pertaining to internal
Finance policies and procedures.

To be aware of and appropriately report any discrepancies relating to
finances and resources of individuals with autism and the organisation.
Quality:

To be aware of the role of the Care Commission and national care
standards and to participate in meeting these standards in accordance
with Scottish Autism’s Policy and Procedure.

To comply with registration with the Scottish Social Services Council
when required.
