We will be using the method Imaginez by Mitschke, which gives insights on the parts of the francophone world. The first 15 minutes of classes will be to review the poignant 15 minute-video that opens up each unit of the method Imaginez. The other hour and forty five minutes will be to practice the grammar and vocabulary related to the lesson with a lot of discussions and interpretations of texts and videos. All our language classes offer an immersion experience in the French language, which means that instruction will be given in French as much as possible. Students are encouraged to express themselves in French and they will learn French grammatical principles intuitively through repetition. Grammatical instruction will be a tool, not a goal. The instructor, Khalid Bename comes from Morocco and speaks French beautifully (French is the second language in Morocco). He has experience teaching on private schools. Khalid has a great motivation to share his French knowledge with others and learn something from them too. Tuition : $300.00 March 30, 2014 – June 9, 2014 (10 lessons) Tuition is $280.00 if paid in full by March 23, 2014. Students must be members of the Alliance Française of New Haven to qualify. FRENCH Intermediate 1 The Intermediate level 1 class is a continuation of the Adult Beginner level 1 and level 2 classes offered by the Alliance Française of New Haven. Students will have completed the French in Action method by Pierre Capretz, and will have basic grammar skills in the present, imperfect and passé composé tenses as well as a conversational vocabulary building and continuing relationships, making appointment, talk about family, likes and dislikes, studies, weather and descriptions of people. The method Imaginez, features a magazine-like design that engages students while integrating thematic, cultural and grammatical concepts within every sections of the text. The lessons are arranged thematically and introduced by a poignant 15 min-movie. We will study 5 chapters, around the themes of personal relations (civil status, personality, relations, feelings), of living in town (activities done in town, people in town, how to ask for directions, describe places), the medias (the cinema and the television, people in the medias, the press), the world of justice and politics (the law, people’s rights, politics, our security), our society in evolution (changes in society, problems and solutions). Magazine articles will teach us about parts of the Francophone world and the creators (writers, painters, sculptors, architects, engineers…) associated with such countries. In grammar, we will review, the present, imperfect, passé compose tenses by learning literary texts, by Appolinaire, Dany Laferriere, (Haiti) Marguerite Duras, Ghislaine Sathoud (Congo).
