THE UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL LIVERPOOL CENTRE FOR MATERIALS AND CATALYSIS DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER Phase behaviour and crystallisation of ionic liquids and the effect of carbon dioxide: zone melting for ionic liquid purification and recovery A three-year EPSRC-funded post-doctoral position is available from 1 October 2004 to work in a team investigating the structural and physical properties of ionic liquids at or near their melting point to assess a novel method for their purification, necessary for their recovery/reuse in chemical processing. Structural changes associated with ionic liquid solidification will be studied using state-of-the-art X-ray crystallographic and thermochemical facilities in the Department. You should (be about to) have a chemistry PhD with a strong emphasis on X-ray crystallography of single crystals. Experience of optical heating and crystallisation methods and of thermal analysis techniques would be desirable. £18,265-21,125 pa (under review) Informal enquiries to Dr. Neil Winterton on 0151-794-3585, e-mail: n.winterton@liv.ac.uk or Dr Alexander Steiner on 0151-794-3544, email: a.steiner@liv.ac.uk
