Of the chasing pack only Eastbourne were able to win on Saturday, a home triumph over Three Bridges. Cuckfield and Hastings played out a high scoring draw while Horsham won for the second week running, this time at home to Brighton and Hove. Haywards Heath earned their first win of the season when beating fellow strugglers Lewes Priory who have yet to win in six starts. East Grinstead made 238 all out at Preston Nomads as Gary Kleinveldt hit 93 and young wicketkeeper Adam Davies made 45, Stephen Rigg took 5 for 57 and Carl Simon 4 for 61. Nomads won by just one wicket at 239 for 9 with Aaron Phillips making 62 and Rob Wakeford 58, for Grinstead Aussie leg spinner Cullen Bailey took 4 for 97. County professionals Tom Smith and Ollie Rayner took all ten Three Bridges wickets to bowl them out fro 170 of which skipper Mark Newell made 65. Smith took 5 for 27 and Rainer 5 for 50 and earlier, for good measure, Smith hit 104 not out as Eastbourne posted 258 for 4 declared, Angus Stewart made 41 and John Snashall 36. Horsham won by three wickets with nine balls to spare against Brighton and Hove who made 236 for 6 declared after deciding to bat first, skipper Patrick Spencer made 63 and Tim Jarvis 63 not out. The task for Horsham looked a tought one when they slumped to 37 for 4 but Sussex wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd hit 89 and New Zealander Michael Bates hit 48 not uot to give the home side victory at 237/7, Matt Wood took 2 for 68. Hayden James was in form with bat and ball for Haywards Heath who won by four wickets at Lewes Priory having bowled out the home side for 202. John Ashton hit 50 for Lewes who recovered from 71 for 5 while James took 3 for 41. In the Haywards Heath total of 204 for 6 Scott Sharma hit 65 and Hayden James 55, the pairm added 101 for the fourth wicket. The highest score of the season was made by Cuckfield at home to Hastings as they posted 329 for 5 declared, Chris Mole hitting 156 and Marc Gardner making 53. Hastins seldom looked likely to challenge that total and finished at 287 for 5 at Stumps with 70 from skipper Jason Finch, 56 from Richard Young and 53 from James Beany. Chichester have consolidated their position at the top of Division Two following a four wicket win at home to Littlehampton who are bottom and without a win so far.Roffey, Pulborough and Bexhill were outright winners on Saturday, newcomers Glynde and Middleton played out a draw. James Askew and Benn Challen each made 83 for Littlehampton who posted 239 for 9 declared after being put in by Chichester for whom Richard Logan took 4 for 71 and Matt Gethin 4 for 53. The home side knocked off the runs at 240 for 6 from 42 overs with Jez Goode maiing 78 and the veteran John Edwards 77, For Littlehampton Adam Tester took 4 for 58. Worthing tumbled to a five wicket defeat at home to Pulborough after batting first and making a relatively low 144 all out of which Ollie Rogers made 39 and Darryl Rebbetts 36. Pulboorugh reached 147 for 5 thanks to Rophit Jagota (48) and Tom Crump (48 not out). Stirlands were put in at home to Roffey and posted a promising 233 for 5 declared of which Sean Heather made 64 and Anthony Angus 77 not out. But Roffey raced to 235 for 4 with 98 from George Fleming and 59 not out from Michael Norris. St.James stuttered to 138 all out at Bexhill with Fred Whitehead making a top score of 52as Sean Austin took 3 for 11. Malcolm H=Johnson then cracked 60 not out to take Bexhill to victory at 139 for 7, Matt Ades did his bext to make it tough as he took 4 for 35. Middleton made 245 for 6 after being put in at Glynde with Mark Hoare making 66 not out and Ben Hansford 53. Glynde then held on, just, at 176 for 9 as Aaron Madgwick took 5 for 42. In the East Third Division Seaford continue to head the table having won four of their five games to date. Ansty lie second having won at Burgess Hill on Saturday. Uckfield made things tough for Seaford as they posted 246 for 9 declared with 87 from Peter Morris and 57 from Peter Holman, Stuart Pulford took 7 for 53. But Seaford reached their target at 248 for 6 with Chris Stanyard hitting 98. Ansty also won by four wickets when making 188 for 6 in reply to a Burgess Hill total of 185 of which Luke Vick made 50 as Glenn Anson took 4 for 56. The game at Keymer and Hassocks ended in a draw with Sidley 229 for 8 facing the home team’s total of 245 for 5 deckared. Craig Ramsden hit 64 and Neil Priddy 32 for Sidley but the top scorer in the game was Keymer and Hassocks’ skipper John Price who mmade 104 in their total of 245 for 5 declared. Dave Earl made 91 in a Chiddingly total of 223 for 8 declared against Crawley who held on at 152 for 7. In the West Billingshurst lead the table after winning against Slinfold on Saturday. They made 203 for 6 declared of which Barbadian Carleon Broome hit 52 and the same player was also in form with the ball to take 7 for 51 as Slinfold tumbled to 187 all out, Jon Augustus hitting 73. Findon won by 48 runs at home to Henfield after making 187 all out of which Jack Metters made 50 and John Rogers 45, Matt Hopgood took 4 for 32. Harry Metters then took 5 for 37 to send Henfield to 139 all out of which Steve Munday made 47. Arundel held on for a draw at Pagham who posted 242 for 5 of which Will Rolls made 87. Of Arundel’s 199 for 6 Richard James hit 74 not out. Steyning tumbled to a five wicket defeat at home to Bognor after being dismissed for only 132, Bognor reached 136 for 5 of which Max Ashmore made 45 and Elliott Clarke 42. Ifield looked impressive at Goring where they made 248 for 5 declared after being put in, Graham Dean was top scorer with 72.
