361 USE AND SELECTION OF PAPERBACK BOOKS Paperback books are considered to be an indispensable part of an enlightened instructional program for contemporary students and represent one of the best means available to get students of all ability levels interested in recreational reading. They also offer unusual opportunities for enriching, diversifying and individualizing instruction and for moving beyond the inherent limits of a traditional literature program based on anthologies. As with all textbooks and instructional materials, paperback books must be chosen carefully and should be appropriately allocated through a process involving the cooperative efforts and professional judgment of English teachers, language arts teachers, reading teachers, and media specialists at the various grade levels. Specific guidelines for the selection and use of paperback books in the district shall be developed by the administration. The Friess Lake School District shall not discriminate in the selection and evaluation of instructional and library materials or media on the basis of sex, race, national origin, color, religion, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation or physical, mental, emotional or learning disability. Discrimination complaints shall be processed in accordance with established procedures.
