56. Authorisations (1) The lists of those to be: Recognised and Regarded as Ministers or Deacons of the Methodist Church Authorised to Serve the Methodist Church as a Minister or Deacon Granted the Status of Associate Minister or Deacon and the text of the relevant Resolutions are to be found in the supplementary booklet ‘Ministerial and Diaconal Oversight and Authorisations’. PRESIDENCY AT THE LORD’S SUPPER The Authorisations Committee consists of a mixture of presbyters and lay people, with representatives from the Diaconal Order and the training establishments. It meets once a year to scrutinise the applications for authorisations to preside at the Lord’s Supper, which have been submitted by Circuit Meetings and agreed by District Policy Committees. Whilst applications are for a period of three years, they are subject to annual renewal, which requires the approval of the District Policy Committee. The Committee delegates authority to two of its members to approve on its behalf applications received after it, or the Conference, has met. Applications are recommended to the Conference on the basis of the criteria agreed by the Conference in 1997 and printed in Constitutional Practice and Discipline (page 803 in the 2007 edition). Whilst deprivation is the major criterion, geographical and ethnic factors are taken into account, as they have been in some cases this year. The Authorisations Committee presents three lists to Conference. List A records the recommendations of the Committee on the initial applications and renewals at the end of a three-year term. Lists B and C set out the recommendations of the Authorisations Committee on renewals for a second or third year. ***RESOLUTION 56/1.
