I would like to provide some feedback concerning the options proposed for cost recovery of various
authorisations under the EPBC Act.
Any extra cost impositions concerning the issuing of permits for basic scientific research will
significantly reduce the capacity of research providers to continue with beneficial ad hoc scientific
investigation. Already there are significant state and federal administrative burdens that are a
distraction to pure basic research into biodiversity. The inclusion of further costs can only hinder
Australia’s research capacity further.
