No previous experience necessary Course description – Include aims and objectives This course aims to teach essential jewellery making techniques with a focus on design principles. The learners will have the opportunity to make the following pieces; a charm bracelet, memory wire bracelet, illusion necklace, safety pin brooch, wire wrap ring and many more designs. The skills gained in this workshop can be easily continued at home with minimal tools and space This course is a chance to learn simple and effective techniques to create some beautiful jewellery for you an your loved ones. Learning outcomes: Teaching learning methods used Students will understand the basic techniques of working with beads and jewellery hand tools. The course is run in a friendly relaxed atmosphere with a chance to discuss your own ideas at the beginning. Demonstrations and hand-outs give additional support. Each piece of jewellery will be led as a step by step process learning to use the tools and findings with gentle progression as the course ST NEOTS COMMUNITY LEARNING goes on. One to one guidance throughout the course ensures that you have met the course aims and that you can walk away with finished jewellery. How progress and success will be recorded There will be no examinations just continual support and guidance. Course trackers Assessment Fee Awarding Body None None External Assessment Examination Yes x No Additional Course Cost (e.g. visits, materials, books, equipment) Materials such as beads and wire will be made available to purchase from the tutor during sessions. This cost will vary based on individual’s choices of materials but as a guide £5 will cover initial findings, plated wire and beads. Alternatively materials can be brought from home or local tool or bead shops. Materials required for first class The following items are desirable however not essential as tutor can provide basic tools: Chain nose (Pointed) pliers (teeth in jaws are best avoided but can be worked around) Round nose pliers Wire cutters Flat nose pliers Wire and beads (other found objects) Any further next steps The course is a great base to gain grounding for students who wish to continue studying jewellery design and making for example a first diploma in Art & Design at the regional colleges or students who wish to continue practicing privately.
