Materials Needed:

A shoebox
Styrofoam balls in various sizes
Some paint & paint brushes
Bits of Styrofoam pieces
Stings or fishing wire
Scotch tape
Little rectangular labels
Glue
Scissors
Directions:
1. Obtain all of the materials that will be needed to make the diorama.
2. Paint each Styrofoam ball the color of the Sun and of the planets you
have assigned to. (Remember when assigning the Styrofoam balls to
each planets, consider the size and the color of the planets. Feel free
to go back to the WRL and read about each color of the planets.)
3. While the Styrofoam balls are drying on the side, start painting the
shoebox the color of space. (Remember to paint some stars!)
4. Then paint the bits of Styrofoam pieces in the colors of the Asteroid
Belts and the comets
5. While those are drying, tape the strings onto the Styrofoam planet
balls and the Sun Styrofoam ball.
6. After that, tape the other end of the string to the box in the correct
order of the solar system.
7. Now that the small pieces have dried, tape stings to those pieces and
place them correctly within the shoebox solar system
8. Lastly, label each clump of object and tape it on the shoebox or on the
Styrofoam pieces.
9. Please put your first and last name on the back of your shoebox
diorama.
