The Monkey’s Paw
Title:
閱讀心得 Book Review:
“Monkey’s Paw” is a classic horror story. It caught my imagination immediately the
moment I opened the book. It is really horrible, and the words are really terrifying. I
felt so scared when I was reading it. However, after I finished reading the book, I
found that the main idea of this story is “You gain some, you lose some.”
The characters in the book always get a taste of their own bitter medicine after they
make wishes to the monkey’s paw. The prices they have to pay are always much
higher than what they get. Some of them even lose their lives, but they never learn
their lessons. People are greedy, and to them, money is never enough. One lady
wishes for 200 pounds, but the price is the life of her son. Of course, she then loses
her mind because of the tragic loss. She than makes another wish that her son can be
brought back to life, but it is stopped by her husband.
Imagine a dead man, after being buried in the dirt for 10 days, coming alive and
walking toward your house, step by step. Covered with bugs and worms, the
decaying body drags a chain, which keeps making noises when it walks. The sounds
get louder and louder until suddenly it stops in front of your door, knocking on the
door loudly! When I read this part, I was so nervous that I was drenched in sweat.
I love horror novels a lot, so I had read a lot of books similar to “Monkey’s Paw,” like
the Goosebumps series, but “Monkey’s Paw” is still the best that I have ever read!
My heart beat really fast while I was reading it, especially in the middle of the night,
when everyone is sound asleep. It is just so brilliant that I can’t describe it in words.
You’ve got to feel it by yourself. After finishing reading the book, I can only shout,
“Awesome!” Although it is a really old story, it’s so amazing that it can still scare any
reader today.
