What is Mini-Scrapbox? Mini-Scrapbox is one of roughly 100 Scrapstores in the country. It collects and stores a wide variety of materials, mainly donated by companies, that can then be REUSED in the community by drama & music workshops, clubs, schools and playgroups, for arts & crafts, design technology, etc. These materials are valuable play and art/craft resources. Mini-Scrapbox is a registered charity, (number 1050261), run exclusively by 7 or 8 unpaid volunteers including the secretary Jim Elliott. Mini-Scrapbox Mini-Scrapbox aims to benefit: Paper, Folders, Coloured Card, Tubing, Calendars, Wallpaper etc Fabrics: large selection, various sizes, patterns, textures and colours. Zips, Reels of Cotton & Wool, Foam, Wood, Plastic Paint brushes and rollers We can get one of a thing or 1,000, and regularly obtain fresh resources to stimulate experimentation Companies & Businesses by taking away “waste” which is costly to dispose of. Cost The Environment by reusing rather than recycling, which is more environmentally damaging. has a wide variety of resources: To register with Mini-Scrapbox is £8.00 a year and members then pay affordable amounts for the chosen materials. Local community groups and organisations by offering a diverse range of materials so they can afford to experiment. Once a member, you can use us as often as you wish. Children, by enabling them to fully use their imagination and develop their creative skills. We are working to become fully sustainable, (independent of grants), and need new members to join and use our service annually. Play is: sticking, designing, cutting, drawing, folding… in fact whatever you want play to be. Play is important to everyone: Young people learn through it. Older people share their play experiences with younger people. OUR AIM IS TO MAXIMISE RE-USE AND MINIMISE WASTE We believe in making waste things into play things. The resources that scrapstores offer at low cost enable play to happen; 1) affordably 2) experimentally, participating with others 3) indoors and outdoors Moreover: as we hate wastefulnessthrough sharing what otherwise would go into landfill, we might help influence businesses to agree on new, greener environmental policies. Mini-Scrapbox has worked with the PreSchool Learning Alliance in Norfolk for several years. We have also worked with the National Childminders Association, schools, Guides and Scouts and craft groups, just to name a few. We have one world. We are consuming for three worlds.
