General Description (Purpose and Function):
Accountable for implementing strategic plans and actively managing the operations of assigned area. Contributes to
the overall planning for the area and serves as area leader.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
 Creates business plans, designs new units, and monitors space utilization and patient flow.
 Plans and directs all daily clinical and non-clinical operations.
 Establishes and monitors tracking mechanisms for the review and analysis of patient volume, patient flow,
type of tests performed, productivity, and profitability.
 Directs pertinent issues to Medical Director or Associate Hospital Administrator.
 Establishes protocols to ensure confidentiality of patient information.
 Plans, evaluates, and revises procedures and practices for accomplishing objectives.
 Communicates job expectations, guidelines, and operational instructions on a regular basis.
 Develops and implements documentation and computer programs to ensure maximum efficiency within unit.
 Plans and executes teaching sessions designed to educate in-house and external referring physicians about
the Unit’s capabilities and foster ongoing referral relationships.
 Acts as a liaison to community physicians who utilize the Unit by referring their patients for testing.
 Establishes an educational program for residents, fellows and faculty members.
 Manages and develops budgets and operational forecasts.
 Monitors budgets and identifies opportunities for revenue enhancement and containing costs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 Knowledge of medical terminology.
 Knowledge of respiratory disease and diseases that affect the respiratory system.
 Ability to use respiratory therapy equipment.
 Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in devising, installing and interpreting rules, regulations, policies
or procedures.
 Ability to supervise staff of professional, technical and clerical subordinates in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale.
 Ability to express ideas and information, clearly, concisely, verbally and writing.
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with subordinates, superiors, and officials of
other departments.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
 Current/valid FL Certified Respiratory Therapist License.
