Entry-level network/systems engineers work with project teams to design, develop, test and
maintain broadband communication systems and products.
**We typically look for BS students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in:
*Network Engineering
*Electrical and/or Computer Engineering
*Computer Science
Below is a list of responsibilities for entry-level Bachelors’ graduates:

Network Engineer: BSEE or BSECE with a strong interest in working directly with customers and network
deployment. Responsible for being the technical liaison between a customer base and HNS in a Network Engineering
role. Engineer will work closely with customers on a daily basis to ensure all issues from design, to acceptance, to
maintenance are addressed effectively. Network engineers are responsible for and track: customer configuration,
applications, sites deployed, open technical issues, and new implementation potential and activity. Requires real time
troubleshooting of product, network infrastructure and connectivity issues. Working knowledge of the following is a
plus: switched Ethernet, IP, VLANs, Frame Relay, ATM, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, T1, and T3. ISDN, comprehension of
the OSI reference model. Requires working knowledge of Enterprise LANs, WANs, Routers, switches, CSU/DSU, and
related networking hardware. Requires understanding of the concepts of Internet, VPN, VOIP, Intranet and Extranets.
Position may involve up to 50% travel. This position will require work outside of normal business hours.

Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in CS, IS or EE with strong written and verbal skills. Engineer will be
responsible for integration, testing, deployment and support server hardware along with a combination of proprietary,
COTS and open source software products. The position involves exposure to Operating Systems, such as Windows,
Linux and UNIX as well as IP networking, databases, and scripting languages such as Bash, Python/Perl and PHP.
Knowledge in operating system internals as well as software development is required, while coursework in networking
and databases is a plus. This position will require work outside of normal business hours.

Pilot Engineering: BS or MS with strong interest in customer interaction to bridge technical details in pursuit of
marketing a dynamic suite of Hughes products and services. Will work closely with Sales Management, Development
Engineering and Network Operations to provide technical expertise with the integration of Hughes’ award winning
solutions into prospective client environments. Requires working knowledge of IP networking with an emphasis on
security and experience with third-party products (i.e. Cisco Routers/Switches & Fortigate Firewalls) spanning LAN &
WAN implementation (DSL, Cable, T1, MPLS, VPNs, VLANs, 802.11 a/b/g/n, 3G/4G). Understanding of routing
protocols is essential along with troubleshooting techniques that include experienced use of analysis tools (i.e.
Wireshark, Teamviewer).

Network Technician: Associates Degree or higher in CS, IT or related field. Works in the Network Management
Center (NOC) and is responsible for monitoring and managing the HughesNet and HughesOn services for the North
American Services Delivery group. Provides network support for both consumers and enterprise customers
regardless of the platforms. In addition, responds to audible and visual alarms, creates tickets, documents and follows
procedures, implements the change management policies, trouble-shoots individual and network problems,
communicates with consumer and enterprise customer help desks or NOCs, escalates to various support teams and
vendors, and leads event management for network issues. Experience in a network operation environment
recommended, customer service experience required, good understanding of TCP/IP, skilled with Windows OS’ and
MS Office suite, experience with Linux/Unix recommended, basic networking skills required, and knowledge of
satellite technology and terrestrial technology (i.e. DSL, WIFI, Cable) is recommended.

Sales Engineering: BS or MS with strong interest in participating as a technical member of the Hughes team in
promoting the technical features and economic benefits of Hughes’ products and services. Engages with customers
for determining requirements across a broad range of solutions including: wide area networking (DSL, cable, 3G and
satellite), network security, VOIP, Wi-Fi and digital media. Plans, designs, and communicates solution designs and
strategies. Assists the sales force with request for proposals and technical documentation. Position is highly technical
and is highly visible internally and with customer executives.
