Primary 3 Snow activities Language Practise writing your letters neatly with tails. Write a letter to your teacher about how you are spending your snow day. Use capital letters, full stops and make your sentences as interesting as possible. Draw a picture to show us what you have been doing. Write a winter poem – think about all the five senses. What do you see,hear,feel,taste,smell? Imaginative writing – Write your very own snow story in a mini booklet. Illustrate with pictures. It can be fun such as a snowman coming to life or scary such as a rescue that happens in the snow. Spelling – Work on learning your common words. Use your grid of 72 common words and practise the ones you don’t know. Choose a word. How many times can you write it in a minute? Write it in different colours. Maths. Months Look at a diary or calendar in the house. Practise the order of the months – which comes before and after. How many days in each month? Practise your mental maths skills. Ask an adult to give you quickfire questions for adding to 20. Project If you have the Internet, do some personal research for your class project. This would be about Food. You could make a ‘Did you know?’ page to share with your class. Science Time how long it takes for snow to melt if it is heated (brought inside) and also how long does water take to freeze? Snow fun Instead of building a snowman, can you make something else out of snow? How about a snow dragon or a snow elephant? Take a photo and bring it back to school.
