WORLD-OF-WORK INTERNSHIP
PROGRAM FELLOWS
The Hiatt Career Center World-of-Work Internship Program provides $3,500 stipends to fiftyfive Brandeis University sophomores and juniors to pursue unpaid internships. The goal of the
program is to encourage students – by eliminating financial barriers – to use the summer to
investigate their career passions. The program supports students interning in any field in the
private or public sectors, in the United States or abroad.

Leila Alciere (’09) – Boston Mobilization, Cambridge, MA
Leila will be directly involved in the administrative, programming, and educational
planning activities of Boston Mobilization, a non-profit organization that has been devoted to
empowering grassroots movements for peace and social justice for over thirty years.
Austin Auh (’10) – Connecticut Free Shakespeare, a division of Dandelion Productions, Inc.,
Bridgeport, CT
Connecticut Free Shakespeare is a professional theater company committed both to
diversity and to making classical plays, in particular the works of Shakespeare, accessible to all
through free performances. Austin will participate in acting, text analysis, scene study, period
specialties, and set design, culminating in performing in the company’s summer production of
Much Ado About Nothing.
Sophie Azout (’09) – Fundación Carulla, Bogotá, Colombia
Sophie’s interest in social entrepreneurship will be well-matched with her duties at
Fundación Carulla, an established non-profit that is widening its scope of operations to include
efforts to improve education for all in Colombia. As an intern she will draft preparatory
documents, conduct research and outreach, and collaborate on the strategic launch of this new
initiative.
Alysha Bedig (’09) – Department of State, U.S. Embassy, Cairo, Egypt
Alysha will spend the summer on the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt. She will
play an integral role in the daily operations of the embassy, while learning how the critical social,
political, and economic objectives of U.S. foreign policy are met through diplomatic
representation overseas.
Jenna Berger (’09) – withAnet, Marina del Rey, CA
Jenna will intern this summer at withAnet, a new marketing firm that specializes in
branding for luxury goods and high-end hotels. She will advise on youth marketing, including
creating and delivering pitches and developing marketing strategies and design for projects
already in progress.
Anne Blackstock-Bernstein (’09) – Child Language Research Projects, New York University,
New York, NY
Anne will be interning on the research team at New York University’s Child Language
Research Programs, through the university’s Department of Applied Psychology, conducting
classroom observations, helping to run focus groups, and transcribing interviews. The programs
specialize in language development and early childhood education, particularly among lowincome and immigrant populations.
Rebecca Blomberg (’10) – Endgame Entertainment, Beverly Hills, CA
As an intern at Endgame Entertainment, Rebecca will be exposed to both the
administrative and creative dimensions of the company’s full range of projects in television, film,
and video, such as working on production, scripts, and business activities.
Aaron Breslow (’10) – Gay Men’s Health Crisis, New York, NY
The Gay Men’s Health Crisis is a non-profit AIDS service organization. Aaron will
support the organization’s efforts through work with the Mental Health Program, Meals and
Wellness Program, and the AIDS Walk 2008. Aaron’s past work on diversity-related issues will
serve as a foundation for his responsibilities within these projects, including administration,
programming, data collection, teaching, and outreach.
Rachael Chanin (’10) – The National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum, Chicago, IL
The National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum’s website states that the museum “inspires
greater understanding of the real impact of war with a focus on Vietnam” through artwork by
veterans and related exhibits. Rachael, who studies psychology and art history, will assist in
cataloguing the collection, serving visitors, and day-to-day museum administration.
Miriam Cooper (’10) – Interfaith Nutrition Network, Hempstead, NY
As an intern at the Interfaith Nutrition Network, Miriam will support the organization’s
mission to assist individuals in need of food, shelter, and support services. She will organize,
manage, and teach in an English as a Second Language tutoring program for guests of the
network’s Mary Brenan Inn.
Cassidy Dadaos (’09) – MassHealth: Board of Hearings, Boston, MA
The Board of Hearings is an independent unit of the Executive Office of Health and
Human Services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; it provides hearings for individuals
dissatisfied with MassHealth decisions on service requests to the state’s Medicaid Program.
Cassidy will be directly involved in the review process by observing hearings, researching
Medicaid statutes, and attending policy meetings
Amanda DiSanto (’09) – Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, NY
Amanda’s studies in art history and past museum experience are a strong background to
pursue a coveted curatorial internship at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Among her various
activities, she will conduct research for a forthcoming installation, assist with collection database
management, and research potential acquisitions.
Julia Elman (’10) – Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT
Julia will undertake an internship in the Yale University School of Medicine’s Program
for Obesity, Weight, and Eating Research. She will be exposed to clinical and clinical-research
activities, including data collection, questionnaire administration, and data management, while
observing psychologists’ clinical and diagnostic interviews.

Michael Frenkel (’10) – National Security Internship Program with the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security, Washington, D.C.
Michael’s internship in this new program for university students through the FBI and the
Department of Homeland Security will provide exposure to issues related to national security and
analysis. The program includes language and cultural studies as well as experience in the
operations of law enforcement and intelligence.
Zohar Fuller (’10) – Cornerstone Theater Company, Los Angeles, CA
The Cornerstone Theater Company describes itself on its website as a “multi-ethnic
ensemble-based theater company” which combines “the artistry of professional and community
collaborators.” This summer Zohar will gain extensive classroom training and theater production
experience as well as be immersed in the process by which performers with varying experience
and from all walks of life partner within the context of the arts.
Daniel Gillman (’10) – Special Projects for the Office of Special Investigations, Criminal
Division, United States Department of Justice, Washington, DC
Daniel will perform factual research on violations of human rights for the Office of
Special Investigations, the United States Department of Justice agency focused on investigating
war crimes. This work will provide first-hand experience with the related issues of social justice,
genocide, and criminal investigation and prosecution.
Mia Goldwasser (’10) – The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, Kibbutz Ketura, Israel
The Arava Institute is a renowned environmental institution in the Middle East. Mia will
be working directly with the Executive Director on all aspects of the organization’s teaching and
research mission, including communication, strategic planning, media watch, and environmental
research.
Elias Harrington (’09) – Voice of America Broadcast Company, Beijing, China
Voice of America Broadcast Company, a U.S. government funded media agency, has
offered Elias an internship to assist in a wide range of news gathering tasks, including research,
monitoring, interviewing, and production at its Beijing newsroom.
Ashley Hebert (’09) – Massachusetts Department of Education, Malden, MA
Ashley will be interning at the Community Service-Learning Program within the
Massachusetts Department of Education and assisting in its efforts to improve public education in
the state. Her duties will include compiling and analyzing data of the program’s effect on
schooling, preparing reports, and researching state and local policies and practices for servicelearning activities.
Allie Indeck (12/’08) – Aging, Culture, and Cognition Laboratory, Brandeis University,
Waltham, MA
Allie will be a research intern in the Aging, Culture, and Cognition Laboratory at
Brandeis, conducting a research project, employing advanced scientific techniques and
technologies, and immersing herself in the full range of responsibilities and activities of a
research scientist.
Laura Jenks (’09) – Brazilian Immigrant Center, Allston, MA
The Brazilian Immigrant Center is a non-profit organization serving the needs of the
Brazilian population in Greater Boston. Laura will be applying her sociology background,
experience in Brazil, and past work in non-profits to the Civic Participation Program, which aims
to support the Brazilian community’s engagement in the American political system.

Yoon-Jin Kim (’10) – Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, Boston, MA
Yoon-Jin will intern on the Spreading Education to End Discrimination program within
the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. She will be directly involved in
activities related to discrimination law, outreach to community organizations, and programming
that serves disenfranchised groups.
Jeremy Konar (’10) – Boston Spirit Magazine, Boston, MA
Boston Spirit Magazine serves the area’s gay and lesbian community. Jeremy will be
interning with the editor-in-chief, learning and participating in key aspects of magazine
production, copyediting, and researching and writing stories, as well as the day-to-day
administrative operations of the company.
Jennifer Levine (’09) – David R. Godine, Publisher, Boston, MA
Jennifer will intern at David R. Godine, Publisher, in order to experience the full range of
activities involved in publishing operations at a small press. She will have editorial, marketing
and sales, and management responsibilities.
Lee Marmor (’10) – Valdosta State University Archaeological Excavation, Carsulae, Umbria,
Italy
Lee will spend the summer as an intern at the Carsulae archeological excavation in
Umbria, Italy, run under the auspices of Valdosta State University. He will learn and be
responsible for critical aspects of archaeological work at the site including excavating, keeping
logs, and handling artifacts.
Angela Meyster (’09) – Law Offices of Robert A. Hanna, P.C., Fort Lee, NJ
Angela will pursue her internship at the law offices of Robert A. Hanna, P.C., in order to
gain in-depth understanding of and hands-on experience in the case process and attorney-client
activities.
Daniel Miodovnik (’10) – The Reinvestment Fund, Philadelphia, PA
The Reinvestment Fund’s Policy and Information Services Department focuses on
economic growth in neighborhoods. Within this department, Daniel will be researching and
summarizing data and housing policy information to support the fund’s revitalization efforts on
behalf of clients and communities.
Garrett Nada (’10) – The American Jewish Committee, Irvine, CA
The American Jewish Committee is devoted to promoting human rights, international
affairs, and inter-faith work. As an intern, Garrett will research faith and ethnic organizations in
order to inform AJC’s relationships with them in support of its overall humanitarian mission.
Nicholas Ng (’09) – Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY
Nicholas’ interests for his internship lie in understanding more about medical science
and, in particular, pediatric oncology. At Albert Einstein College of Medicine and The
Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, he will participate in a clinical research project studying
childhood cancer patients.

Marcela Palau (’09) – United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Taiyuan, China
Marcela’s internship with the “EU-China Shanxi Region Partnership Project” is a unique
opportunity for over 60 European enterprises to meet with over 140 Chinese companies. This
internship will allow her to explore her career interests in world commerce, enhance her Chinese
language skills, and gain insights into formal international relations.
Alexander Parks (’10) – United Way of Dutchess County, Poughkeepsie, NY
As an internship at the United Way of Dutchess County, Alexander will support the
organization’s efforts to gather resources and create relationships within communities to ensure
their well-being and good health. Alex will gain insight into the workings of an NGO and its
relationships with a complex group of key constituents.
Jamie Pottern (’09) – Leading By Example Program, Executive Office of Energy and
Environmental Affairs, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Boston, MA
At the Leading By Example Program in the Massachusetts Office of Energy and
Environmental Affairs, Jamie will be immersed in the state’s climate policy research, planning,
and programming. Her duties include substantive work in drafting resource plans and
environmental protocols to save energy and use resources efficiently.
Daniel Risman-Jones (’09) – Arriba Ya Program, Bruce Organisatión, Trujillo, Peru
Arriba Ya is involved in micro-financing projects to support the economic and social
well-being of Peruvian women. Utilizing his Spanish-language skills, Daniel will play a key role
in the organization’s efforts by leading a project development program, working directly with
Arriba Ya directors as well as communities and individual clients.
Elizabeth Rubin (’10) – Molecular Psychiatry Laboratory, University College London, London,
England
Elizabeth has obtained a research internship in the Molecular Psychiatry Laboratory at
the University College London which specializes in molecular genetics of mental illness. She
will be exposed to cutting-edge information and techniques in this field, gain hands-on laboratory
knowledge, and observe clinical care.
Michael Rubin (’09) – Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA
Michael will be interning in the Division of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at
Massachusetts General Hospital. The opportunity will provide laboratory experience as well as
exposure to applications of sports medicine in the real-world environments of patient care.
Lindsey Sarquilla (’10) – Los Padres ForestWatch, Santa Barbara, CA
Los Padres ForestWatch is a non-profit organization working to protect Los Padres
National Forest. Lindsey will be applying her academic coursework in environmental studies at
Brandeis to hands-on activities related to environmental law, research and data gathering, and
field work.
Ashley Sauerhof (’09) – Sanctuary for Families, New York, NY
Ashley has been offered a legal internship at Sanctuary for Families’ Center for Battered
Women’s Legal Services division. She will have in-depth exposure to legal research and writing
techniques, motion practice, outreach, and advocacy.

Katie Schlussel (’09) – Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY
Katie will be working side-by-side with developmental and educational specialists in the
Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy department at The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital.
As an intern she will be involved in providing therapeutic activities to young patients and their
families.
Katherine Schram (’09) – MusicAmador, Cambridge, MA
MusicAmador is an agency promoting Latin culture through music. Katherine will be
exposed to all aspects of the music business including marketing a new CD release, connecting
with the press on shows and tours, and using online technologies to promote new programs.
Dawn Schwartz (’09) – Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE),
New Delhi, India
Dawn’s internship at ATREE will provide an extraordinary environment in which to
explore the connection between environmental issues and the people affected by them in an
international setting. Dawn will apply her research skills to real-world problems of
environmental degradation and economic development.
Michael Shoretz (’09) – Office of Congressman Eliot Engel, Washington, D.C.
This summer Michael will experience the inside of the U.S. federal legislative
environment working in the Office of Congressman Eliot Engel in Washington, D.C. He will
have a full range of intern responsibilities that include handling constituent correspondence and
attending briefings. As a result of Congressman Engel’s work on the Subcommittee on Health,
Michael will also gain a perspective on national health care policy issues.
Shreeya Sinha (’09) – CNBC, Mumbai, India
CNBC is trusted by many business leaders for its insight, analysis and real-time market
coverage, hosting one of the most comprehensive television content libraries in India. Shreeya’s
internship in media production, script writing, and business analysis will be a stepping-stone for
her to work in an array of organizations, whether they be management, consulting, or
communications.
Rebecca Sivitz (’09) – Democratic Central Committee, Seattle, WA
Rebecca will be immersed in the event planning and fundraising aspects of political
campaigning as an intern with the Democratic Central Committee. She will see first-hand how a
political party is structured and functions as well as the crucial role that development and events
play in campaigns.
Alexander Smith (’09) – American Institute for Roman Culture, Ville delle Vignacce
archaeological site, Ville delle Vignacce, Italy
Alexander will be an intern at the Ville delle Vignacce archaeological site under the aegis
of the American Institute for Roman Culture. This opportunity affords exploration of
archaeological techniques, finds analysis, and the day-to-day functioning of an on-going
excavation.
Rebecca Sniderman (’10) – Alternatives for Community and Environment (ACE), Boston, MA
ACE is a non-profit organization focusing on environmental justice through school-based
programs, public transportation, and legal assistance to community groups. As an intern with the
Development and Communications Team, Rebecca will explore how non-profits approach fund
raising, conduct outreach, and gain community support.

Stephanie Sofer (’09) – America Democracy Project, American Association of State Colleges
and Universities, Washington, D.C.
Stephanie will intern under the guidance of American Association of State Colleges and
Universities’s Vice President for Academic Leadership and Change. She will conduct research
for the Civic Policy Network that supports the work of policy makers interested in studying and
enhancing civic engagement in America. Stephanie will be looking specifically at environmental
policy.
Bruce Strong (’10) – Margolis and Company, Bala Cynwyd, PA
Bruce will be interning in the accounting firm of Margolis and Company this summer.
He will be gathering and analyzing data within the Forensic and Litigation division, learning the
legal processes involved in company liability, divorce support, and tax litigation.
Avner Swerdlow (’10) – The Bedford Falls Company, Santa Monica, CA
Avner has been offered an internship with The Bedford Falls Company, a production
company active in both television and film. He will be learning the ropes of executive
filmmaking, gaining hands-on experience in story development and script handling, and
experiencing the many aspects of production.
James van Wagtendonk (’09) – Radio Netherlands Worldwide – The State We’re In,
Hilversum, The Netherlands
James will be working at Radio Netherlands Worldwide’s “The State We’re In” radio
program, an hour-long weekly show focusing on human rights issues around the world and
broadcast internationally. He will learn how the station covers human rights issues, attend
editorial meetings, and collaborate on programming related to his studies in global affairs.
Miriam von Guggenberg (’10) – Project Happiness, Palo Alto, CA
Miriam will have the opportunity to explore and expand her global communications skills
in this internship with Project Happiness. Using as a starting point His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s
book, Ethics for the New Millenium, the project aims to understand what promotes happiness in
our lives, particularly in young populations, and to empower individuals to develop happiness in
themselves and the world. Miriam will be working in global messaging for the project,
connecting with young people world-wide, and helping to develop new training materials.
Catherine Wagner (’09) – Double Edge Theatre, Ashfield, MA
Catherine will work as an intern with the Double Edge Theatre’s ensemble, immersing
herself in the creation of theatrical material, training for the stage, mentoring new students, and
theater administration. The internship culminates in three weeks of performance.
Dror Weiss (’09) – Physicians for Human Rights–Israel, Tel Aviv, Israel
Dror’s internship will be located in the Physicians for Human Rights Open Clinic; the
organization has a special interest in providing care to disadvantaged patients. Dror will shadow
doctors as well as communicate with patients to provide information about their treatments. The
opportunity will provide in-depth exposure to the medical profession.
Gabriella Wertman (’09) – Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann LLP, New York, NY
Gabriella will pursue an internship in the legal offices of Bernstein Litowitz Berger &
Grossmann LLP. She will assist the legal staff – both attorneys and paralegals – in various
aspects of the case process, such as factual research, depositions, and dockets.

Allison Young (’09) – Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Boston, MA
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s Department of Museum Learning and Public
Programs will be the site of Allison’s summer internship. The internship provides exposure to a
world-renowned comprehensive museum and hands-on experience in programs that reach out to
and educate the community through the arts.
Gal Zilberberg (’10) – Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel, Petach Tikvah, Israel
Gal will be interning in the Education Center at Schneider Children’s Medical Center of
Israel. The center is a key component in the daily life of young patients. Gal will work with the
teachers, therapists, doctors, and other staff members that comprise each child’s crossdisciplinary team providing all aspects of coordinated care.
