Summary of the broad purpose of the position, and its responsibilities/duties. The PDY Radiographer participates in a structured professional development program with increasing responsibilities and diminishing supervision as the 12 month program progresses. Working under guidance and support of an accredited radiographer, the incumbent undertakes standard medical imaging procedures as assigned ensuring adherence to appropriate professional standards of practice. 2. Relationships (To whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation.) The PDY Radiographer reports to the Medical Imaging Services Manager through Medical Imaging staff. The incumbent is responsible to the Senior Professional Supervisor (Sonographer) for ensuring that the interim and final PDY assessment forms are completed and forwarded to the State PAEC. The Radiographer works collaboratively with Radiologists, Sonographers, Radiographers and administrative staff as required. 3. Special Conditions (Such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, frequent overtime etc.) 4. The PDY Radiographer is required to enter into an annual performance agreement for the achievement of defined outcomes and participate in special projects as required. Some out of hours work may be required. Participation in an after hours on call roster (where competence is demonstrated, with appropriate supervision) may be required. Some intra and interstate travel may be required. A current South Australian driver's licence and a willingness to drive are essential. Applicants will be required to produce a satisfactory National Police Certificate/National Police History Records Check prior to confirmation of appointment and every 3 years thereafter from date of issue. Contribute to the provision of an effective medical imaging service by: Undertaking standard imaging procedures under the guidance of an accredited radiographer ensuring appropriate professional standards of practice are met. Under the guidance of an accredited radiographer checking imaging requests are consistent with patient clinical details and clarify any if required by checking the patient’s previous clinical history. Under the guidance of an accredited radiographer coordinating phases of x-ray examinations including patient preparation, appropriate use of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and digital imaging systems. Ensuring that allied health staff and other relevant hospital personnel undertake appropriate safe practices in accordance with the Radiation and Protection Act 1982. Under the guidance of an accredited radiographer using the Department’s Computer Radiography and Radiology Management systems. Liaising with peers, Radiologists, other medical officers and nursing staff on procedural matters relating to general radiographic imaging. Contributing to quality assurance processes consistent with defined Department and Hospital policy. Assisting other radiographers as required. Develop as a professional by: Contributing to own professional development by participating in a 12 month training program including identifying development requirements and actively contributing to development plans and strategies. Provisional Statement of Accreditation in Diagnostic Radiography from the Australian Institute of Radiography, or its recognised equivalent. Licensed under the Radiation Protection and Control Act SA (1982). Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills (Related to the job description and expressed in a way which allows objective assessment). Knowledge Knowledge of the responsibilities of the radiographer in the safe delivery of ionising radiation to the client and protection of other personnel in the vicinity of the examination. Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare principles and procedures. Sound knowledge of Quality Management principles and procedures.
